Hi, I did a spray tan yesterday using LA Tan 8% Gold. Client is very pale, red hair, freckly and burns in the sun. She's going on holiday abroad tomorrow. She fitted into the criteria for 8% Gold (which I use regularly for clients with the same skin/hair colouring). I showed her the colour guide chart and discussed why I thought 8% Gold was the best for her (natural sun-kissed look, good fade off, etc.) and she was happy with the colour choice. She's also had skin cancer and won't be sunbathing so her natural skin colour underneath the spray tan will stay the same. However, she's contacted me this morning saying that she feels it's not dark enough. If I respray today, should I spray again with 8% Gold or go darker with 10% Gold or go with 10% brown? Thanks in advance geeks xx

I have found that a skin chart can only be used as a basic guide & you need to get the client to express their desired colour outcome to you as most clients skin will handle a 10% solution without issues even though that is not what is advised on the charts.

I use LA Tan solutions myself BUT don't use the gold range just the brown range. I would have most likely spray the client with a 10% solution or if she had been worried about being too dark I would have offered FAST and advised to wash off after 3 hours.

Now that you have sprayed with 8% gold and the developed colour is not dark enough you need to spray with 8% gold again. I wouldn't want to spray them with a darker solution now as that would most likely make them too dark.

That client will most likely want a 10% tan in future should she return to you, if she likes the golden tone then go with 10% gold or fast for approx 3 hours. If she wanted to be more brown then go with 10% brown.

Thanks Baggybear, your advice is much appreciated. It turns out she changed her mind and is happy with the tan! I've also since seen a post she's put on Facebook saying she's delighted with it, it's the best tan she's ever had, and highly recommends me - clients eh?! Thanks again though and I'll bear your advice in mind for the future xx
