Hello Geeks :)
I'm a level two beauty student due to complete in June this year, I'm looking at getting things rolling and starting mobile, obviousley I cannot do any beauty treatments until I am qualified and have the appropriate insurance in place. So I was thinking of going on a tanning course and starting mobile with just the tanning until I qualify, just to help build a client base and get my name out there.

I was hoping I could pick your brains with the following questions, as all of this is new to me. I don't have an awful lot of money to set this up, but I do want to buy a good tan machine, so instead of buying new I was considering getting a quality second hand one off EBay. Can anyone recommend a good brand/model of machine? Initially I was leaning toward being trained by Sienna x and using their products, but the wait for training in my area is another 3 weeks away:-/. Is Sienna the best to train with? Do you have to have Sienna training to use their tan and machine? Can you use any tanning solution in any machine? Can anyone recommend a good practical accredited tan course in the NW? What tan solution would you recommend i liking the sound if Suntana and Sienna at the moment:)

I would be most grateful for any advice you can give me, as I don't want to make any expensive mistakes with the equipment.

Thank you and sorry for all the questions x

All I can tell you is what worked best for me, because I didn't want to buy into a brand as such. I bought a Maximist machine from the Suntana website - it wasn't massively expensive, and came with 3 good sized free samples. I trained with Fake Bake as I was planning to use their solution. I had used FB hand applied solution and loved it. During the training, we sprayed each other, and my daughter was training with me. I was ok - a bit greeny tinged, but my daughter started to turn Shrek green - not a good look!!! I confidently told her it would wash off and be a brown, but not true. She was green!!! After that - and the supply issues they had, I wasn't keen to use FB. I opened the Suntana, and although I have tried lots since then, I have not come across anything as good. I didn't do an expensive opening package that included sticky feet (never used, just put a small towel down) paper knickers (had a packet of 50 that hardly ever get used) etc. Hope that helps, and good luck with your training! Oh, and yes, you can use Sienna X regardless of who you trained with. I actually rang them to try their solution and she asked why I hadn't trained with them, or bought their kit!!! Cheek!!!

I trained with sienna x but I bought things separately as I didn't know if that was 100% the tan I wanted to se. Tried a few and loved sienna best!

Thanks so much for the advice, can I ask you what model Maximist you went for? Its a bit of a mine field:o

Me again, with more questions.

I have just come across an accredited spray tan course, which is done completely online, just wondered what you thoughts were on this? Should there be anything I need to check with regard to gaining insurance from an online course? Or is it fine as long as it states accredited or certified?

Many thanks

Go on a course, they are not expensive, you get to talk with a tutor who can give you hints and tips after seeing your technique. You then have someone to call for product advise, and support. Xx
