Acrylic nail infill

Hi I'm newly qualified and a bit confused over infills. I don't do them very often cos most people just remove them themselves and come back for a new set and don't bother with an infill so I'm a little rusty. Am I just supposed to be pushing back cuticles and then filing away any lifted acrylic? Or am I supposed to file it so it's flush with the nail plate and you can't see any lines at all? I find when I actually do an infill it takes me a long time, not sure if this is just lack of experience or if I'm just doing it wrong! Thanks
