Hello All,

I have just started my Acrylic Nail Extensions course and I am struggling with the smell of the products and the lingering smells.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to reduce the smell?

I am also thinking of getting a mask.

Many Thanks
Jess :) xx

That smell is the smell of money... (you will come to love it)

in the mean time, there is several things you should know and how to reduce it.

Note that different brands have a different potency of odour..

To reduce your odour, you need to reduce the amount of liquid that evaporates, here are some tips:
- Put out only the amount of monomer you need when you need it for application
- dispose of any unused amount after application (this should never be reused anyway)
- Wipe your brush on a plastic backed pad (or ultra pad) that is absorbant
(A paper towel actually allows the liquid to spread away, increasing the surface area that can evaporate)
- Put any monomer soaked pad into a metal (lidded) rubbish bin and empty this regularly

Most important is to have adequate extraction ventilation (not air conditioning, as this just recirculates the odour) The best is direct to outside extractors (like a bathroom unit)
Alternatively, plenty of indoor/outdoor air flow...
A mask will actually not help in any way, as odour is far too small a particle to be collected. These masks are for dust particles only.

Monomer is a very low odour threshold product (you can smell it at tiny concentrations) But even when it is very strong, it is probably well below international safety levels...
