Hi, I am just wondering if anyone can tell me what am doing wrong. I’m not qualified a year yet so I do still have a lot to learn. Basically sometimes when I apply the gel polish over the acrylic it changes the shape of the nail. I don’t no if I am maybe using too much polish when capping the free edge? Or has anyone any other suggestions as to why this happens and what I can do to prevent it?

TIA
Danielle

I’d take a guess it’s your filling when balancing out the acrylic

Try using thinner coats of polish, even if you have to apply more for full coverage.
I rarely use gel polish over enhancements as I do think it changes the shape

I'm having this issue as well and it drives me nuts! I get the perfect shape when I'm filing then as soon as I add colour it rounds the shape and I hate it.
I use thin coats of colour and only cap the free edge once but they still don't hold the shape!

Any other ways around this? Thanks!

It's hard to explain and harder to get right without ruining the integrity of the nail but push the refinement buffing a little further, so slim a little more than your first instinct, thin slightly more (without knocking out the stress point, etc.) which will give a little leeway for the bulk of the polish.

Gel polish also adds bulk to the corners so especially for a coffin shape, I create a shape that's as crisp as possible, super sharp edges, even if clients says oh, i don't want sharp corners, leave them there during finish filing as the gel polish will dull the edge

Ok thank you :) So take the nail slightly thinner on the top and sides before the gel polish?
I like a sharp edge and that's what I get before the polish but the it rounds!

I'll give this a try! Thanks.

I very rarely use gel polish over extensions now for this reason
