Hi all Nail Techs, I completed a 2 day acrylic course a few months ago and feel comfortable using this overlay on clients who want short nails, however when I have client who wants long coffin nails (like today) I am having issues.
Bear with me :o) .... I prep the nail etc, but when I have layed the acrylic & its dried, I'm having hard time 'feeling' the bumps, so to me after filing the nails and they feel completely smooth. I pop the gel colour on and then wham there are those lump n bumps all over the nails, not a nice smooth finish nail. I dunno and just wanna give up. :O( I've attached the pic... on closer inspection you can see lumps.....
I do practice on my nail trainer for a few months now. I'm thinking it might be because I'm not used to doing long nails.... or it me...? Many be I need one to one tuition?

Any advice will help :0)
Thank you xx

You need to perfect and practise your final finishing buffing technique. It's virtually impossible to tell someone how to do it, you need to see it and be shown. Its about keeping the abrasive at the right angles to keep the strength but perfect the shapes. YouTube is probably your best first place to start, i know Miss Lucy Fell has a finishing filing video. You could also approach whoever you trained with for further training.

It can help to turn the hand around and look down the barrel of the nail from the cuticle point of view :) That way you will more easily see if there are any imperfections. Also make sure to check it from every angle. Perhaps you could use an opaque acrylic, like pink or nude so you can more easily see the surface, until you got the hang of filing routine? The filing routine should be the same for each nail.
