Acrylics going out and gels coming in??

I am also very confused by NSS and what are california gels? In Canada you only see acrylics in the 'Asian' salons. They are not popular at all here. The type of product available here is not great. I had a friend get acrylics in the city, then go down to the states for a fill and the ones she had done in the States were so nice, they even filed off easy like Gel. I dont think anyone in the city offers and acrylic course anymore. Can anyone enlighten me as to how acrylic is done? It still boggles my mind! Also.. what is the easiest way to remove it?
