Hi,

I hope someone can help. I have had acrylic nails for a couple of years and am now thinking of having them taken off. My degree requires me to work in a hospital where for hygiene reasons I can no longer wear them. I also have sporting commitments which really would require them coming off.

Thing is I'm worried about how my nails will look and be affected after so long of having them on. Whenever I have a new set and the old one's are soaked off they nails look so thin and not really nice I dont know what to do! I dont want horrible looking nails but I cant have acrylics anymore.

If I have the nails taken off, then a polish put on will the nail still recover or does it need a total break from acrylics and polish etc? Are there any products I can use to help the nail recover quicker?

Any help would be greatfully received

Thanks

Katrina

Hi Katrina,

If you are allowed to wear polish then I would definately say yes...it will help to protect your nails while they grow out and make them a little stronger. Alternatively, you could also try gel polish, that will also provide a bit of strength, certainly a bit more than normal polish...either Shellac or Gelish etc....there are quite a few on the market now....and those type of polishes last approximately 2 weeks too, so you'd have a nice manicure and great looking nails for longer! HTH's! :)

Alot of it depends on how they have been maintained over the years , was your teach good or hevy handed , if she used a good quality system and followed good nail prep then your nails shuld be able to be safely removed without any issuse other than a tempery serface dehydration , that can be rectified with time and some solar oil ;)

the nails shuld also be removed properly , if they are acrylic (Liquid and powder ) then they will most likely be soaked off , some UV Gel's are also soaked but most are filed off .
no system shuld ever be prized or picked off .

the good news is your nails are constantly growing the avrage is about 6 months to the free edge , so unless you have nails like goat horns the natral nail on your hands right now will only be about 6 months old and not as old as the years of enhancments you have had .
