Hi all,
I have been asked by a friend to do a root perm and although i am confident with basic perm techniques i have never actually done a root perm before.

I have done some research on how to how to wind the sections but what i really need to know is can you just use regular perm solution applied with a brush? (i usually use acclaim acid perms as they are true to roller size and leave the hair in nice condition, never had a frizzy or dry perm yet with them).

Also do you root perm the whole head or just the top, sides and crown area?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated x

I use a gel perm for root application-it doesnt spread onto the rest of the hair like normal solution. I apply it to the section to be permed (often the crown area) along the front of the perm rod/roller and use a tint brush to agitate into the hair xx

I use Wella Headlines it's not a root perm more like a Demi wave, just a bend in the hair but no damage. It's brilliant, clients love it!

Hi,

Doing my root perm today, just a quick question.
Do i need to put conditioner on the 'free ends' after i wind my perm to create a barrier so the perm solution doesn't leak onto the hair that is left out of the perm rods, or will it be fine?

Im using a regular acid perm rather than gel.

Thanks x x x

Also, do you use end papers to keep the hair in place? Gawd, i sound daft i know but i just want to get it right.

5 Years in a salon and never done or seen a root perm peformed :o
