Hi ladies,

I'm thinking about having some easilocks fitted but wanted some un biased opinions first.
I've finally got my hair in really good condition from years off home bleaching. (don't shoot me, worst mistake ever!) I'd say my hair is about 18-20 inches long so I just want them in for thickness. My worry is will they damage my hair? I've had bonded extensions in before in the past and I always struggled with the aftercare. Once they'd been in for about a month, they started to matt especially when I'd had a shower, the heat would make the bonds sticky and my hair was just a massive knot. In my opinion I looked after them, brushed my hair with the appropriate brush, plaited my hair at night, didn't get any heat near the bonds with straighteners And I didn't keep them in longer than 3 months with a top up in between. I thought the micro thingies sounded better as there's no glue or heat involved but I'm still nervous!

In your experience have you found that even with good aftercare there was still damage to the hair? Is there anything I could do to prevent them from matting?

Any advice would be much appreciated xx

Hi Hun, congrats on getting it in good condition ! How long did it take if you don't mind me asking ? i am in the exact same position, my hair is basically 'on mends' from bleaching, dying and hair extensions.

They are really high maintenance tbh Hun, even if the Extensionist missed out 1 thing on the aftercare to tell you or you missed it, that doesn't help. Could be a bad batch.

You could get away with half a head, just for thickness less bonds needed ! Where you separating your bonds everyday ? That helps prevent matting. When shampooing your hair, you weren't massaging it in like in a circular motion ? X

Thank you, it's taken a good 3 years to get how it is now but I did make a right ness of it. That's why I'm anxious to have them if they're going to cause damage. I never rubbed with shampoo just kind of stroked it through? And only put conditioner on the ends. I've had them in 3 times by two different people and always had the same result. It must be me or the particular type of bond.

Wow 3 years, i have a long way To go, i only just started properly saving mine sinse just after christmas :(

It could honestly be the hair then hun, you sound like your doing everything right, was it a known salon you went to ?
I know just quite a few salons use cheap hair ! just make sure your separating your bonds everyday and did you have a maintanance check up, like a month after with Extensionist ?

I dont think a type of bonds makes any difference, any professional is happy to correct me if im wrong, as i have only been doing it myself for 3months but i haven't heard this before anyways.

well done for being so patient and letting your hair recover from over bleaching it- I know how difficult that time can be, especially when you have got an itch to go back to blonde :D.

To answer your question, yes, if the extensions have been fitted by a professionell, the hair is of good quality (you should at least look for human remy hair) and you follow the aftercare appropriately, then the extensions won't damage your hair at all.

When you have had your extensions fitted in the past were they always from the same brand? Maybe it is worth trying out a new supplier to see if you get on better with them.

The only times my bonds ever get a bit sticky is when I get some sort of product like conditioner or heat protection spray on it. Some of the ingredients in these products such as oils and alcohol weaken the bond, so when you apply these always make sure that you only apply them to the lenghts and ends of your hair.

Hope that helps.

Thank you it all happened because some useless hairdresser messed my beautiful long hair up and made me look like rod Stewart, just because I asked for shorter layers. I vowed never to go to a hairdresser again lol.

I'm thinking of going for the micro rings this time. I felt the bonds were maybe just to high maintenance for me. I wish their was a hair extension geek that was local to me. I always look at the before and after pics on the extension thread and some of them are amazing xx
