Iam 38 yrs old and decieded i want to go mobile is it too late for me to start up on my own feel a bit to old school please tell me and give me some advice  thankyou guys

Nothing wrong with old school:)
I'm the grand total of 44 next month:eek:and delighted to be doing hairdressing again and mobile is perfect for me (especially with 3 kids who have been sick practically non stop(not altogether) for the last 3 weeks. I can suit myself:)
Go for it hun:)

I'm 41 and have recently built up some mobile clients.
I consider myself oldskool too. But I'm good at what I do and know and that should get me along just fine. I have a couple of head blocks which I practice on when trying out techniques I have never done before. These came in very handy when practicing foils and certain hair cuts ect.
I did try to work in a shop again after many years but I have left it far to long, so no one wants to know.
So mobile is the only way forward for me.

Good luck and enjoy.

a fifty something here and I started back after a break at the age of 50! Yes there are limitations as some younger people want their hair done by a younger hairdresser so that limits your client pool. Also not being in a salon you rely on what your clients say about you, so your finished look and how the client manages in between appointments is paramount.

What I did though was pay to go to VS's Academy for a few weeks for cutting and colouring when I decided to build my little salon at home and try and build up more clients. It took a while (about 18 months) to get to where I wanted to be in amount of work but I felt the bit of extra training I did was worth it. I am, by nature, not that confident and it boosted my confidence a lot. Also I enjoyed it immensely so it was worth the money just for that. I still go to the VS Academy sometimes and just watch, they also let me hang around and observe when I go to get my hair cut in central London. it is expensive but no more than I might spend on a holiday or maybe an expensive meal out neither of which enhance my earning capability.

I also took heart in reading that Annie Humphries of Vidal Sassoon fame didn't retire until she was nearly 70 and always led the way with new colouring techniques until she was well past her 50s maybe her 60s. Being older does not mean you are no longer capable of being creative and good at what you do. You just have to make sure you keep up with the new stuff.

Also in the beginning I had a couple of friends through daughter's school that are quite high profile in that they always look amazing with good hair and well dressed etc and knew lots of the other mums. I talked them into letting me do their hair just before school pick up time on the pretext I wanted a model. They turned up at the school with their hair looking amazing and with a couple of my business cards. It worked a treat a few more clients there and then.

I am amazed at how little people spend investing in their chosen career and method of earning money or increasing their earnings. it is money well spent in my view.

I am 38 and new school..well still very wet behind the ears only finished level 3 june lat year and i have been mobile ever scince and i do love it.
I have agood client base through word of mouth and client refferrals i dont advertise as such..(did that when i was a nail techinician and got a lot of strange people ringing up, so i stick to word of mouth and have a good client base.
go to aston and fincher
sally's there are allways courses advanced cutting etc colour etc so you can be up to date with techniques
try and get hold of the toni and guy classic cuts dvd and book fabulous it is..
i find i do a lot of colour corrections mobile luckily this was covered in level 3 plus from great salon experience i had...so be aware of that as people bugger up their hair box dyes etc..so again colour correction is a lot of what i do
hth

No, you're the perfect age. You've got common sense, drive and ambition. These will get you a long way. It won't be easy, but nothing that is worth it ever is. Good luck.

You're never too old to do what you love. Best of luck! :)
