hello all looking for bit of advice i have lient booked in who has light-medium brown short hair and wants it darker brown with red highlights what method would you use to do this do you think it would be best to darken it down first then do some bleahed highlights to lift it a little then put the red on?
any advice would be much appreciated x

No. The red would wash out really quick. Put the red lights in then flood between the foils or meche with your dark brown base colour. Process as normal.

hello thanks for your quick reply that the way i would normally do but i think shes got quite short hair so im thinking if its too short for the mesh?? and her colour just now has been a colour shes did herself so im thinking the red might not take to it im not sure what do you think?
red isnt a colour i do very often lol i dont like doing bright reds etc because they can fade quick lol

Do a colour test before you proceed to see if the red will take.

Remember if it's a home-dye to check for incompatibility as well.

hello yeah thats what i think im planning on doing il do a little test to see if the red will take if it doesnt take i think il need to stick to my first plan of darkening it then doing some highlights with bleach to just slightly lift it then il put the red on with 2o vol she wants very very fine highlights so will be doing the highlights through poly caps rather than my meshes what do you think?? my problem with reds are because they tend to fade quick and iv tried different brands is there a way of doing this without making red fade fairly quick??

The condition of the hair will affect how quickly it fades so make sure the client uses good quality colour care shampoos and conditioners. Doesn't use high heat settings and puts heat protection on the hair.

yeah see anytime i seem to be doing bright red i advise that to people and all i get is oh i need to wash my hair at least 4 times a week etc etc and im like welllllllll with red and bright colours like that you cant

Majicontrast will lift without the need to pre lighten. Works great on dark base. xoxo

thanks for the advice xxxx
