Hi could any hairdressing lecturer's help me by telling me what's needed to start teaching? I dont have my level 3 or hnc but have 9 years experience. Do I need these before doing my pttls?

Any advise would be great
Thanks :)

Hi there, I am not a hair Trainer but work in a Hair and Beauty Training college.

Strictly speaking, you can only assess what you are qualified to. So if you have your Level 2, you could assess up to Level 2. However your experience could be taken into account for when/if you do your level 3 and you could fask track through it.

The first qualification I would recommend you get would be your A1 Assessors award, which means you can assess learners competance. Then move onto your PTLLS.

A good employer will put you through your Level 3, but it maybe difficult getting a role just delivering level 2. So its a bit of a catch 22!

Hope that helps, Jo

I'm wanting to do the same thing, but started my level 3 in September as the head of hairdressing in the college says it is now a requirement to have it before doing the assessors award then the actual teaching one!xx
