I've just started doing bridal hair recently and did a trial last week for a girl who had long hair who wanted loose curls!!!

I set her hair in heated rollers and then planned to curls some sections with barrel tongs but when the rollers came out she liked it that way so I only curls a few sections with barrel tongs.

She came back to me to tell me that her hair was completely straight after an hour and therefore can anyone give me advic eon how I can make the curl stay in longer.

Any tips would be really useful.

Do it curlier to start with . Generally curls always drop . This is what I do :)

I specialise in hair extensions application and styling, I offer hair extensions big blow dry/ soft curls as a seperate service. Because it is long the curls will just fall out after an hour, so what you need to do is shampoo the hair twice, apply minimal conditioner so the hair is not too heavy, rough dry the hair, apply big rollers to the parting only. Blow dry the rest with the rollers in place, tong the blow dried hair witha small pair of tongs and reassure the client the curls will drop, spraying hairspray as you go. Then take out the big rollers and poss curl the ends, again spray! Put a bit of serum on your hand and run through the hair to stop frizzing, spray again. within an hour the curls will have dropped a bit and look perfect.
Advise the client to every few hours apply a bit of serum to the hair and again spray to keep the look all day xx

not a hair pro but have long fine hair and lots of it! the only thing that works for me is gas tongs for some reason everything else drops out! I wash my hair the day before too. before curling I use curl mouuse let it dry spray my hair with hairspray then brush, then spray each section before curling then more and more hair spray before I go out lol xx

My hair is long and i can get curls in it that last for days.

Here's the trick:

Wash it with volumising shampoo and volumising conditioner
Then pack LOADS of very strong hold mousse into it (mostly into the lengths), you can use root mousse for the scalp to add body) and blowdry it wavy with body
Then use GHD to make the curls - the trick is to do it slowly I find to get the best holding curl. Otherwise you can use curling tongs or the curling wand by Babyliss.
Then I use strong hold dry hairstpray - mine is by alfaparf but i'm sure any strong hold hairspray will do

And there you have it - curls that last for days! :green:

I do a LOT of hair up/bridal hair and you wont go wrong with an old fashioned set, making sure the hair is bone dry before taking the heat off and letting the hair cool completely before taking the rollers out. Then style with the wands/ghd curls etc. if needed. Takes longer to get the result but it's worth it, esp for a long day like a wedding.xx

Definitely let the hair cool completely before removing the rollers. Ideally they need to be in until the hair is completely cold but if you are rushed on time, blast the hair with a dryer on the cool setting. Hair that is still warm when the rollers are taken out will definitely drop.
