Hey lovelies.....im really hoping someone can help. I think im alergic to acrylic liquid, mainly because after a day of mainly doing l&p ive got rashes down my forearms, im guessing i stupidly rest my arm on my tissue which i wipe my brush on, and i also suffer really badly on the areas that i hold the brush with.

Ive tried everything i can think of so far, various makes of gloves, wearing plasters under the gloves to protect my fingers but they get sore still. Im also trying to be careful of my arms.

On thurs i had 2 sets to do, completly forgot my gloves, ive attached pictures of how my fingers look now.

I really dont want to stop offering l&p but i really need some help of how i can protect my hands.

Thank in advance :)

Poor you, really can't help, as I would've thought that wearing gloves and plasters would solve the problem. Which system are you using ? There are barrier creams you can use, but the gloves should work surely !

I use nsi...thats what i thought. I havent tried a barrier cream yet...can u recommend any?

The only barrier cream I know of is biosculpture. To get it easily you need to be trained to buy Thier products, but maybe ebay ?

This is how my allergy to monomer started. I ignored it as I didn't realise what it was (due to crap training mostly!)
I have added pictures to show you how bad mine got. My nails lifted off the nail beds and were so painful.
I would say to try a different system before it ends up like mine did. It took a year to get them back to normal! XView attachment 48121View attachment 48122View attachment 48124

This is them now. Finally healed after a year of shellac and solar oil!

I am having the same problem as you:(
If you are using NSI there is another monomer that is said to cause less of a reaction and in some people solves the problem.I havent tried it yet as NSI are out of stock till Dec. It can be used with the attraction powders.

I did exactly the same as you, got it on my arm so my arm is itchy and inflamed and it started the reaction off on my hands even though I used gloves. NSI recommended matador gloves which are thicker and can be reused im waiting for them to come so cant say if they make a difference yet.

Im in so much pain with it my fingers are now cracked and bleeding so I totally sympathise.

Are you removing your nails alot? When I was training I swore down I had an allergy to acrylics. My fingers were such a mess all broken n sore n itchy they looked just like yours. ....then I stopped removing them with acetone and iv never had another problem ( I used to change my nails every week and I wasnt filing the bulk down so my nails took forever to remove. I just infill them now and do a new design over the top. X

One of my friends today suggested the gloves he wears for tattooing, so ill give them a test and let u know how i get on. Do u wear acrylics to?

I only wear gellux on my nails and remove every 2 weeks or so.

I thought it may have been acetone to start with, but the only areas affected are my arms and the fingers that hold my acrylic brush, and they only flair up after doing l&p.

Im glad uve got ur all sorted now though :)

Once allergic, always allergic so you do realise that you have to stop using the monomer you are using right away or your reaction will get worse with every exposure.

You also need to let your skin heal and repair before trying any other monomers.

MANY technicians who are allergic to something in a monomer have found that they can use Retention+ Monomer from CND and small try Me kits are available to trained techs. Retention+ is very different to other monomers and does not contain some of the products people are commonly sensitive to ... Also CND Brisa hard gel is hypoallergenic. Worth giving it a try so that maybe one day you will not have to wear gloves.

Nitrile gloves are recommended for people who need to protect their hands ... Much better than latex which many be come allergic to.

How can I continue on my course and qualify allowing me to purchase another brand of L&P if I have to stop using the product all together?

I dont think ill ever be able to wear acrylics now.
Im not sure of the exact date that the other monomer will be back in stock. I was just told December.
