Hi all was in need of some advice i have my nvq level one in hairdressing and in september i will be atending collage to complet my vrq level two in hairdressin witch to my knolage contains all the same things as a nvq apart from you are at collage more than you would be when doing an nvq ... One day i wish to be a very sucsesfull stylist as i love what i do and i am fully aware that a good stylist never stops educating her self but wen i have finished my vrq level two what other corses will i have to do ... Do i need to do another level two corse or can i do my vrq three and will that be me fully qualified ??? Please help as i am very keen to become a good stylist and want to do my best and cant do that thanks x

A vrq is like an entry qualification for the nvq level 2 course. You'll need to do your level 2 (nvq) and ideally your level 3 aswel. You also need to get yourself into a salon, even just voluntary. I have all the qualifications but no experience so basically my qualifications mean very little :(

I spend two days at a salon doing my level one and wen doing my vrq i will be in a salon once a week .it is recomended by city and guilds that you have a placement x

Don't go to college!!! Do an aprentership you will get you foot in the door quicker and get a lot more hands on experience!! If you want to be that good you will need to get in to a salon ASAP and push your self!! Find the best salon near you and beg for a job and don't take no for an answer you will not be seen as a pest you will be seen as motivated. Tell them how good you are going to be and make sure they have an artistic team you can join and that they enter competitions!! Be prepared to travel this us the only way you will get there!! It is hard work and you will want to scream but no good hairdresser ever stops pushing them selves and no one in hairdressing will give you a chance if you don't make them!!

Good luck I have loved my job from the start and I'm now doing photo shoots, tv makeovers and competitions in city's in England and my first one next month in Germany!! Trying to find a good assistant is like trying to find a winning lotto ticket if you make sure you are that lotto ticket you will go far!! A GOOD ASSISTANT WILL BE A AMAZING HAIRDRESSER!!
