I might align text in the middle and make all most posts in yellow.

But I think i'll still try and spell

Perhaps i'll even use a smaller font next time.

OMFG, don't ever do that again - it's made my eyes water trying to read it:):):)!!!!!

:lol::lol::lol:

To be fair, What has perfect spelling got to do with being a good Therapist?

I agree that it is annoying, having to 'code break' a message to read it but some people are dyslexic. Also the spell checker you have to download and they may not be on their computer, so wouldn't be able to download it.

I usually double/triple check my posts not to avoid this being brought up so many times, it sometimes makes posting that little bit less enjoyable because of the fear of someone ripping into you because of your spelling and grammar

Sorry x

Im actually dyslexic and dont spell corrrectly, however im fabulous at wot i do in the beauty industry!!!

I agree with you entirely. I'm dyslexic and always use spell checker, but its not fool proof. So I just do my best.

I can see what people are saying about being professional and thats why I get my family to triple check anything I use in my home salon.

But I'm not unintelligent or a bad therapist because I can't spell and don't always write sentences that make sense.:)

Do the best that you can.
The best with your own given abilities.
It's not about people in the industry being perfect spellers.
It's about geeks realizing someone is taking the time to read and understand their post and maybe even reply!
That deserves the consideration of a simple once-over before hitting 'submit'.
Pretty simple!

And when all else fails, there's alway the 'edit' option. I use it often!:)

I might get shot down for this but I'm going to put it out there:

Bearing in mind that everyone out there in cyberspace can read everything we post in this community, there's already the opinion from a large percentage of the population that people get into beauty, hairdressing or other therapies because they're too stupid to get a real career.

Wen ppl cant b arsd chking they're posts 4 speling & gramar or can't be bothered cause they thnk geting the msg up iz more emportent than takin tyme to chck it, it does perpetuate the myth that we as a collective community are stupid.

After all, look at the top of the page 'The Salon Geek: the salon professionals community.' If we want to be viewed as professionals we need to at least make an effort to do our best to present a professional front and regardless of people here saying it doesn't matter how I spell, text type etc because I'm good at my job, it does reflect badly on you as a professional whether you agree or not.

Now, before I get jumped on by those with learning difficulties or those with English as a second language or anyone else, as I said in the previous paragraph, it's about making an effort - some spelling mistakes are inevitable and spell check won't pick them all up. Having a read through of your post before clicking submit is usually just all it takes.

even though I agree, did you spellcheck your own post ?

Would be intrested in how many languages you speak?, can you spell correctly in every language?
Just a bit of support for the foreigners!!!!

even though I agree, did you spellcheck your own post ?
Sure did - apart from the obvious first sentence in paragraph 3 to make a point. I copy and paste my post into word and spell check it there. But of course spell check isn't 100% fool proof either.

I work all week in a complaints department as part of my job im a reviewer (checking everyones letters for mistakes and that all information is within terms and conditions ect... before they are sent out to customers)

so on here i just cant be bothered to always spell things right . . . .sorry

It's interesting when people "don't care", particularly when we are in vocations where we are supposed to care.

I've seen numerous excuses for bad nails, now I'm seeing them for spelling.

Maybe NSS should mean "non standard spelling".

Just like we decided to undertake further training to be where we are now as techs/therapists, why not go the extra mile (yard more like it) and learn to communicate on an educated (even if you are bluffing with spellcheck) level ?

It's pretty basic really.........

Or do you prefer to have an excuse for everything ?

I know what you mean, it gets my goat too, but I cant get spell check to work for me, I think its got something to do with my firewall or something, it just wont work at all.

Spelling, etc, is important, as I keep on telling the brat (not that she listens), it does tell us a lot about someone, but not everyone has had the advantage of good teachers or good schooling.

To be honest I dont come onto this site to check out other peoples grammar or spelling but to get (and give) advice and help, to have a laugh and have contact with people of like mind.

This thread has made interesting reading.

As a qualified proof-reader, bad spelling and grammar tend to jump out at me, whether it's in my own posts or someone else's, but I don't judge anyone by the correctness of their post, although I can see the argument which has been put forward about the idea that beauty therapists etc go into that line of business because they are not intelligent enough to do anything else, and certainly bad spelling and grammatically incorrect posts could seem to perpetuate that myth to the general public, if they are reading.

In my business, I make sure everything the public reads is 100% accurate as I think it reflects on me.

However, there's a time and a place for correctness, and sometimes when I'm on this site (and others) I get a bit "carried away" and type too fast as my brain forges on ahead, busy thinking about what I'm going to put next . . . so I don't claim to have faultless posts. Nor do I care particularly, I'm not trying to pass an examination here lol.

It would actually take me longer to do text talk or abbreviations than it does to type normally .

By the way I don't ever use spell-check and DO NOT intend to start.

And I take my hat off to anyone who has dyslexia or something similar, and to those for whom English is not a second language because their posts do not stand out in any way as being different to hundreds of others in their content and in the way they have been put together.

I have got to say this......

This site is brilliant....but i come on here and yet again another thread about spelling.....now i do my dot thing, like this.......and i like doing it.....

When i joined this site it was to help others, and they help me in nails, hair and beauty.....i did not know it was for spelling or grammar.....

Since the thread grammar i have tried to capitalize at the beginning of sentences and i also try and paragraph now.....but why do we have to keep on about spelling?...i know Carl its your pet pev ....but i joined because i know this site is good...helpfull ....its such a big issue for some to do spelling/grammar...does not bother me.....i find it hard to read text talk...but i still read it because i want to see if i can help.....

Yes this is a professional site veiwed by lots of people....but people come on here to look for advice on hair, nails and beauty...not spelling.....

Its getting so i do not want to post anymore for fear of someone going...Not good spelling so not good at all.....my pet pev's are selfish, rude people...but i dont do a thread about it.....

Shoot me down who does not agree ...its up to you....but i just had to say this and get it off my chest....thanks for reading and have a good evening.x

If you can spell then use the right spelling, if you can't then just do your best.

Thank you ...thats what i do....i can not install the spell check on here...and the spell check i had from google has put pop ups on my computer .....so i have a spell check in my favorites....so i use that when i need to.....xxx

To be honest with children fighting for their lives , and all the other things people deal with
The last petty little thing I could be bothered with is spelling !
Sometimes just put things into perspective people...

If that makes me an unprofessional nail technician then that I am ! (god knows how the fact I can't spell or dont have time to check over and over every post I write makes me a bad nail tech)

I would NEVER not use spell check or make mistakes on purpose to annoy people as I am sure many others who have the same problems,

Sometimes posting on these boards now almost doesnt seem worth it..
your either annoying someone with your lack of punctuation etc...
Or with your veiws...

I am not a great speller...and I am not going to feel pressured into being one,
I am sick of every post I do taking me ages to write,
checking this and checking that,

Just to add.....If clients did come on here for a look around,
I am sure their are things that would shock them a hell of a lot more than spelling or punctuation being less than perfect.

So you can claim "ignorance" when you have a tool at your fingertips to help you?
abc.jpg

I don't seem to have spell checker on geek actually...
So I'd assume that other people don't either.

The ABC icon doesn't show on my browser either, however, I installed the Mozilla Firefox spell checker quite a while ago and it does an automatic spell check on my replies... it annoys me that it doesn't recognise some proper nouns (ie Firefox shows as a spelling error when it's a Firefox spell checker!!!) and can be confusing sometimes (and I'm confident with the written English language!).
God only knows how those with dyslexia decide whether to 'go with the flow' of a spell checker or not!?!

I think that we should give those members who have spelling/word difficulties a break, whether it's typing their posts with centre alignment or forgiving them for their spelling mistakes...

They're trying their best and that's what's important... isn't it?

As long as we all try our best there shouldn't be a problem :green:

am sorry but i agree with emms , as much as i love it here , it is at the end of the day a forum !
i dont have time to check and double check everything i write all of the time.

its gonna get people paranoid about even dare writing anything , which to me isnt what the site is about at all.
