I too agree with Emms.

I am not so concerned with the odd typo or general spelling mistake as it happens when we are soooo busy being Therapists on a daily basis and a Geek on a part time 'whenever I can fit it in' mode.

I just like to be able to READ a thread. I am not prehistoric, I can set the Video/DVD/Blu-Ray, although I had a mobile phone 'brick' when they first arrived and we could text to each other in understandable language. I just really do not understand modern 'Text Talk' because I just don't have the time to sit around and fathom it out.

English, historically, is an evolving language (as far as I'm aware or we would all comprehend the works of Shakespear, Byron, Shelly or the likes - which I don't!). So perhaps I am just an old duffer at 37??

So, perhaps re-education is what's required. Can I start at the beginning and ask:

What does LOL mean????????

OMG!!!! Thanks Sandi that link is a godsend.

Now I can understand what my mother is saying to me in her text messages!

To be honest with children fighting for their lives , and all the other things people deal with
The last petty little thing I could be bothered with is spelling !
Sometimes just put things into perspective people...

If that makes me an unprofessional nail technician then that I am ! (god knows how the fact I can't spell or dont have time to check over and over every post I write makes me a bad nail tech)

I would NEVER not use spell check or make mistakes on purpose to annoy people as I am sure many others who have the same problems,

Sometimes posting on these boards now almost doesnt seem worth it..
your either annoying someone with your lack of punctuation etc...
Or with your veiws...

I am not a great speller...and I am not going to feel pressured into being one,
I am sick of every post I do taking me ages to write,
checking this and checking that,

Just to add.....If clients did come on here for a look around,
I am sure their are things that would shock them a hell of a lot more than spelling or punctuation being less than perfect.

Bravo huni !!!!....i wanted to put all that but could not find the words......

Its starting to sound like you need a degree to join the forum and i did not think this is what this site is about.....like emms had said...i have more to worry about then my spelling....i do make spelling mistake so shot me down now for it......

I do NOT however do it on purpose....i dont text talk.....and yes i do my dot thing...but who really cares.?????..........were not all perfect ...

Its hard for us mums to do are spellings/grammar as, when we get married we concentrate on kids and hubby....we dont have time to read a dictonary.....we have to run a home then find find part/full time jobs which sometimes dont involve using a computer or being a teacher.....supermarkets or factory jobs we sometimes do just to make ends meet....and still be there for our family....we all try ....and thats the main thing.

Having a read through of your post before clicking submit is usually just all it takes.
Not for people who have trouble spelling..
Sometimes, as this has been brought up before many a time,
I haven't had a spell checker on my pc, and I have tried so hard with making sure I had wrote everything correctly so as not to appear to be stupid...
That I got so confused and upset,
I have deleted many posts as I just didn't know how to get it into words, Or because I can't spell some of the words....
Probably during a post that actually could have really helped someone else,

I've seen numerous excuses for bad nails, now I'm seeing them for spelling.
As adults I don't think we should feel like we have to make excuse's for not spelling correctly in the first place.

Maybe NSS should mean "non standard spelling".
No comparison whatsoever, with a tech not being able to spell well,
and a salon that puts clients at risk on a daily basis.

Just like we decided to undertake further training to be where we are now as techs/therapists, why not go the extra mile (yard more like it) and learn to communicate on an educated (even if you are bluffing with spellcheck) level ?
Mabey a lot of techs who did not have the best education or start to life, are just happy to have finally found something that they are good at, and would like to throw themselves fully into that first.

It's pretty basic really.........
For some people yes....others may find spelling just one of them things they can't grip,
I have wrote and said eponychium soooooo many times, yet I still have to check I have done it right everytime I write it..
There are just some words that for me DO NOT sink in,

Or do you prefer to have an excuse for everything ?
Some people have reasons..not excuse's

I have found some of the posts on this thread have been put in a very patronising way,
I have seen so many threads over the months with people telling others to re-read what they have typed before pressing send,
Mabey these people should take their own advice sometimes.
It doesnt help anybody.
It just gets peoples backs up, and offend's
I realise some people don't care who they offend, but where is the point in it....You move on having had your say, leaving others left behind feeling like s**t.

I only usually make mistakes when I'm p*ssed so you all know when that is now!!
Oh and I intend to be that way for at least 2 nights a week just to give the mods something to do.
They love me really:lol::hug:

Hey It's Friday night, what better night for drunken media!

I often forget but I do have the button and I am now trying to use it. I also installed it on my browser a while back and use it now on other forums as having done a test and searched for information by intentionally misspelling key words I found quite a few results I would have missed.

Example, loose one. There was a time on Ebay where you could get some brilliant bargains by searching for spelling mistakes, like variations on solitaire, diamond and other jewellery terms. The point is, those sellers must have been gutted at their end of auction prices and most of them probably never realised. Our Shogun ended up crashed and stolen sadly but we got it almost £1000 under the book price because the seller misspelled certain terms, she was absolutely gutted. Now though Ebay wised up and even if you misspell, if its only minor, it corrects it and searched the correct spelling. Sadly on forums people don't get that help, at least here we get a spell checker though.

I don't struggle to spell but I do HAVE to read my posts several times before I post as I type words I didn't mean to and often read letters wrongly which mean when I read back it makes no sense to me, let alone anyone else although it did as I typed. I'm not taking this topic personally, I don't feel like I am being made to feel unintelligent. For me personally when punctuation isn't there or no capital letters are used, or used on every word, that makes it incredibly difficult for me to work out what is being said and I get frustrated and angry with myself for struggling to read. I am not stupid, but for me it makes it very hard.

Ok, can I get everyone a drink?:hug::hug:

Ive stayed out of this thread on purpose but have kept an eye on it and read all the replies.

I still dont have any thing i can add that hasnt already been said but i would just like to say.

Im dyslexic and proud of it!!!!!!!

I went through school been told i was thick, daft, stupid and all because i couldnt spell certain words.
WELL...........................

Proud of who i am, where i am, what i have learnt and no amount of spelling mistakes makes me THICK im quite inteligant just cant SPELL:mad:

I highly doubt anyone is trying to attack anyone with difficulties. I hardly think that's the point at all.

I think this is more about taking a teensy bit of time, seconds really, to ensure that your message is clear and about taking pride in the written word. It's about a little bit of effort.
I see posts all the time, with an error or two. I don't mind the odd error. I'm sure that I make plenty enough on my own.

It's the ones riddled with errors that drive me insane.

Some of you say that no one is going to think ill of us, or think we're ignorant for few spelling errors. You say that it has nothing to do with our skills or professionalism.

Ok then, how about if Creative or EZ FLow sold products with miss-spelled labels on them? OR if Scratch magazine was published riddled with spelling errors and grammar errors? Would you not think that they are less than professional? I sure as heck would!

It's about "perception", and clients WILL think negatively upon someone they haven't yet met if all that there is to represent this person is the written word. If you think that they won't, then you are very sadly mistaken. I personally have received a phone call from a prospective french client who was in an uproar because my site, the french portion, had errors. Ah well, tried my best. Have a friend doing it for me now. Suffice it to say, she never took an appointment.
Just because someone doesn't say something to your face, does not mean they are not thinking it.

No one needs to be perfect. No one is being attacked.
Carl is asking for something simple. A teensy bit of effort that shows we care about how we are perceived on this PROFESSIONAL site.

This isn't, and I don't think it was ever intended as an attack.
Simply a request for seconds of one's time.
Considering the time he has put into educational videos for many of us (likely, hours)..... I don't think it's a huge request, on his part.

OMG "V", you get what I'm talking about:) and worded it so well.

Yet I get practically hated because I draw attention to it. Apparently they are being picked on, too afraid to post, or simple don't care what people think, when all they have to do is take a sec and install spellcheck.:grr:
to help themselves.
I'm trying to help, now i'm the bad guy....

Carl is asking for something simple. A teensy bit of effort that shows we care about how we are perceived on this PROFESSIONAL site. I care very much about how i come accross on this site victoria. I havnt said anyone has attacked mt personaly but for someone with dyslexia it is a form of attack albeit indirectly. At least thats how i feel, maybe its stems back to my school days when i was forever been shouted down at just because i couldnt spell!

This isn't, and I don't think it was ever intended as an attack.
Simply a request for seconds of one's time.
Considering the time he has put into educational videos for many of us (likely, hours)..... I don't think it's a huge request, on his part. Then its not such a huge request to ask that before people start threads about things that are the bain of some peoples lives that they take a few seconds to think about what they say in the begining.

Im sure others who have dyslexia will feel the same way.

I hold back on alot of threads that i could quite easily have a good input on, the reason been i cant spell some of the words i want to use! I have typed out many a sentance and then erased it bacause i cant spell and no matter how many times ive retyped it still dont look right.

Im not falling out with anyone as what im saying is my choice and my freedom of speech, i respect what others have to say but the sword cuts both ways.

By all means re read and correct before hitting send but remember as i said above, some of us can read and read and it will look normal to us but wrong to others.

Probabily dont make sense to any of you but i know where im coming from.

Peace out

I dont hate you carl you daft mare, im actually inspired by your vids, im just saying what i feel

Same for victoria, her way with words, her work, her friendship, its all admired! i was just outlining above what i felt the need to pick up on

It's about installing spellcheck, not your ability, it never was or has been about ability, it's about installing spellcheck and having faith in that, sure it's not always right, but it will make things look a little bit better. Even for the dyslexic.

Ummmm
do you have to be so surprised?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

geez, not sure if I got complimented or poked fun at LOL

After i left school i went to college for 2 years and done hairdressing.....then i met my ex...got married and had a baby then another...then had part time jobs in supermarkets and factorys to pay my morgage....

In all that time i have never had to use spellcheck or write important letters...my family came first.....i think alot of the others on here were the same as me....

I ...have wanted to learn how to spell properly because i want a job where i HAVE to know how to spell....thats up to ME....

On this site when i joined it never said "watch your spelling mistakes and use grammar"...or am i wrong????....so i thought nothing of it when i joined....

Since the last thread grammar i HAVE tried and do try with spelling mistakes....but when i read threads like this i feel thick and stupid and i am not.....

If a newbie starts and writes text talk , then the mods fix it and send a pm....thats all it needs ...not threads like this again....and yes i do hesitate to answer threads because i feel like i am being judged by my spelling, and lets face it....you only know me from my profile and posts....

If people want to learn to spell then good for them...people on here do try and do spelling and posts better after the mods have told them......but were all only human and this site is whats important ...not spelling....just for the record....i could not install the spellcheck on here....dont know why....so i have another....only because i wanted to .....the most important thing on this site is helping others and asking for help.

Personally, I think the people who are feeling bad about their spelling abilities in this thread have nothing to worry about!!! All of your posts are completely easy to read and follow. I can tell that you are all courteous in your efforts to make things decipherable, and that's all that is expected in my opinion!

It's the people who don't even care (and probably aren't even reading this thread, lol) that write posts that I just give up on decoding!

IT WONT LET ME INSTALL SPELLCHECK :mad::mad:
