Hey there.
Im new to this and just wanted some advice from experienced memebers of salon geek.
I did my level 2 hairdressing at college about 5 years ago and completed this along with nails and beauty. My life took a different turn and i went down a completely different carrerr path. (Working with adults and childen with autism) i have always regretted never actually going forward in a salon and becoming an experienced stylist. I desperately want to get back in to thism i am now 25 and with a level 2 hairdressing already so what would be my options? Id happily do an apprenticeship if thats what it took but like i said i do technically have the qualifications but no experience exactly.
All advice welcome for where i can go from here to get back intp what i should of always stuck at
Thank you

Hey! You're not too old to become an assistant/junior/apprentice.. I think you would definitely benefit from further training as college training doesn't really benefit your skills, it just qualifies you. I think you should find a salon in which will let you varder and train with a highly skilled stylist/colourist. For maybe a year? And do models whilst you're there. Then look at becoming a junior stylist and then work your way up.

You're never too old to do hair.

Thanks so much for your helpful advice. If looking at jobs would you say apply for an apprenticeship then ?Then give them a call and just let them know that i have already received the level 2 so wouldnt need to be sent out for college 1 day a week as already have obtained this qualification? As i do not have the experience to apply for a stylist role do i ?

If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I know many salons looking for qualified people but they are looking to train in salon and get them on the floor as soon as possible within 6 months. If thats not applicable to you, I would ring salons or go into them and just explain your situation and you are looking to just be an assistant and learn and go on the floor within a year. It's not unheard of.

Manchester ,england. They seem to say that they will train you to level 2 standard with a day release to college as what looks like the standard apprenticeship options. What you have just explained would be a great option if so! yes i think your right the best way would be to go in and explain the situation. Hopefully someone will give me a chance and i can start again

I wish you the best of luck, comment on the forum in a few months with an update, will be great to hear! xx

As you are 25 and hold a level 2 qualification, they can’t take you on as an apprentice and legally will have to pay you minimum wage.
If you aren’t able to take clients on immediately, it will cost them to employ you.
You might stand a better chance if you have additional skills (IT?) and work as a receptionist/assistant and start off with shampooing/finishing initially.

You have your qualifications, you should just apply to all salons, send every single salon in your area and email explaining your situation.

I'm crying out for a graduate stylist, I'd book you in with regrowths and long hair cuts to start with then freshen up your skills so you can work on all clients within a few months!

Move down to Dunstable please! [emoji23][emoji23]

I would say ring a couple of salons in your area and explain the situation if you've over 19 + which i guess you are lol, there's alot funding issues with apprenticeships you've already got your paper work you just need the experience xx
