Balayage on bobs?

Can someone clear something up for me.I did a balayage on bobbed hair the other day but felt it looked a bit on the stripy side and had to cut a lot off for it to blend. What am I doing wrong?? I’ve done plenty in the past and always turns out fine. Help

You cut the hair to blend the colour? I can’t imagine how that works with a bob hairstyle?
When doing balayage, I’d normally look at the hair and work out where I want the highlights to sit before sectioning and start very subtle, increasing as required.

You should match the colour to the haircut not the other way round.

Is it a one length bob or graduated?
