Hello! This is my first post...I've been reading forums on SG for quite some time and finally decided to post my own question.

I'll be doing my sister's hair this week, I've attached a couple photos of her hair currently. Her natural is about a level 2. The last photo attached is what she's wanting to do.

I was thinking of doing a root stretch down the midshafts (covering the portion I want the base color), while that's processing, apply lightener to ends (if I need to lighten more), wash out, then apply red to ends. But would like your input of what technique / process I should do to get to this outcome.

I also would like some recommendations of color for the red (preferably Wella or Redken...but am open).

Thank you in advance!

Hi I would recommend lightening the ends First to at least a copper tone (bleach and 30 vol)
Process for 30 mins
Shsnooo and dry!
Then apply root colour and stretch it out!!
Then apply wella 66/46 and 0/45 mixtone and 20 vol. this was my result on a client that was level 2 box dye for over 20 years

That is beautiful!! Thank you for the tip! My client has been going back and forth about doing red...so she changed her mind last minute and didn't want it as bright as the image I shared...I did a root stretch, washed her out & dried...then for the red, i did a semi - Joico Intensity Ruby Red without pre-lightening it any further than it already was so it didn't come through as intense. It turned out beautiful and she loves it...she said she's going for the intense color as we get into spring...so at that point we'll probably do the process you mentioned in your comment!

Thank you again!
