I am 30 years old and looking to change my career to Beauty Therapy. I'm really confused as to where I can gain an NVQ qualification without going to college full time. I have looked into institutes such as Carlton but haven't seen much good feedback on here about it so won't be wasting my money there! I can't afford to give up my job to go to college full time so was wondering if anyone could give me some useful advice? Do I do courses 1 at a time such as waxing etc and build on my skills or is there somewhere where I could learn everything and gain an NVQ? Thanks!

Some local technical colleges run evening and weekend classes to cover nvqs. A lot of private colleges also run similar courses. Try contacting local colleges or adult learning institutes to start with.

hello hun I'm in the exact same position! I was thinking of going with the Carlton Institute as I've seen some good reviews? Was also thinking of Saks although they were more expensive. Where about's in the country do you live? I'm in South-west London, I've haven't seen much in the local colleges around here x

after researching I thought I had settled on the Carlton Institute for the beauty therapy NVQ2 at Windsor, but then read some bad reviews about their nails courses at Windsor.

Wondered if anyone had been on any of the courses below? Any feedback would be very much appreciated:

# The Carlton Institute at Windsor (5 days tuition then home study and assessments)
# The London School of Beauty & Makeup via Open Beauty Learning Programme
# London College of Beauty Therapy
# Saks Beauty (v.expensive approx £3500)
# local college, x2 evenings pr week p/t, but doesn't start till next September

Gosh I'm confused!! def want to do nvq2 to give me a solid grounding in the industry, just don't know what to go for!!!

Any help / advice would be very much appreciated xxx

Firstly i would say decide if your going to do home study or college. College is the preferred method especially if you want to gain employment. If you wish to work for yourself and cannot go to college than home study is fine as long as the qualification is recognized and you can gain insurance. As for which one well thats a matter for you as some people will love a certain company ie Carlton and some will not. Whatever you choose stick with it and make the most of it and im sure you'll be fine. x
