Quick question....do you have to be a qualified hairdresser to be a hair session stylist/artist?????

Hi, dont quote me but i do think you need a qualification. Even if it a hair styling and presentation course. Professional qualifications look good on your cv and will get u the best jobs and prob help your career to further :) hope that helps.

To be able to get insurance you will need proper qualifications from an accredited course.

There are courses available that just cover hair styling/hair up without cutting/colouring - is that what you mean? You can do some VTCT courses in styling and also some media and theatrical makeup schools teach hair styling, wig dressing etc without teaching how to cut & colour. You would need to check with insurers what their requirements are in terms of a suitably accredited course, but I do know of a number of bridal hair & makeup stylists who are not hairdressers - they are only trained in hair-ups.

thanks for all ur replies,

yes thats what i mean, I have found a course at The Session School in London, its the professional hair course, if anyone has had a look at the website..... has anyone heard of the school? are they good? the course seems like it includes alot and they offer a 3 year aftercare and support for students.....the school is also habia CPD approved....

and also, the course is BABTAC accredited x

I've never heard of the Session School (but no reason why I would have since I'm in the north west) - but Greasepaint do a hair styling course, they are one of the most prominent make-up schools in London if that's where you're looking to train. Check out working hair and makeup artists in your area and see where they trained - I did this and found that the successful ones in my area pretty much all went to the same training school, hence decision made easy for me!
