I think it depends if you want to do a short, intensive course or a longer one to ensure you know absolutely everything you need to confidently. Ask yourself if you're looking to do EVERYTHING - acrylics, gels etc - , or if you'd be happier with just one at first. I've only learnt gel extensions at the minute because i'm quite nervous, a friend of mine did acrylics, fiber glass, the lot, and she only uses gel also until she's happy with it - for the money it costs, it's definitely worth thinking about. Also they often try to sell you the kits with different courses - some people say yes yes yes go for it, buy it, some people say definitely not. When I did mine, I was glad I didn't buy their kit - it was a bit basic, the polishes were gloopy and horrible, but that could have been just the way students had taken care of them. It does give you a good idea of what you need, though.
I am looking to work for myself personally, just for the freedom, and for the fact that you earn what you work. If you're likely to miss being in a 'team', though, then it might not be for you, but you will still be interacting with your clientele so it works both ways! Sorry i'm rambling, but these are all things I had to think about, and still think about when I decided to kick myself into gear! x
