Hi I am very new to all of this, I did my Bio Sculpture training a few months back and have got my exam on Tuesday. I have had alot of practice so hopefully I will be okay :S
Just a couple of silly questions that I wanted to ask incase I make a mistake on tuesday...

1. With doing infills which buff/file do i use to buff down the original overlays because i think ive been using the wrong one which is why they didnt turn out to well.

2. Also when doing a pink french manicure, in which order do i apply the gels?

If anyone could help me pleasee! :) Thanks xxx

It's been a loooong time since I did my Bio exam, but I'm sure if you used a 180 grit you couldn't go too far wrong.

When you do your pink and whites, you start with a layer of clear as a bonding layer and then your pink and then your white.

Good luck with the exam... don't worry, you'll be fine

Okay thankyou so much! Fingers crossed :) x

Hi,

I just done my B/S assessment yesterday and passed it's such a relief to get that outta the way. I had to do 1 hand in red no.19 2 overlays and 2 fills on the other hand 1 silk repair 4 sculptures with french. Hope you done well

I apply the white first then the pink and then the clear (I use white #1 and Strawberry French #87 for the pink.)

Now that I think of it, I remember the educator told me that she wasn't too concerned about my technique... once the finished product looked good, that was what they were interested in, so I'd say it won't matter what way you do your P&W.

Hi !!
If you have done lots of practice I am sure you will be fine with your exam!!
I have been Bio Sculptured trained and working with it for about 5 years and I use a 180 grit file ... but sometimes if your original overlay is a little bit thicker near the cuticle then you may need something a little stronger ... but 180 usually fine ..
With the pink french manicure ... I always ask the client if they want the white really white ... and if they do, apply the pink / rose first and then the white and if they don't do the white and apply the pink over the top. Either way, if you then do the clear gel and sealer then your top coat varnish as normal it won't matter ..
Good luck with your exam!!! Let us know how you get on !!

Hi nail geeks,
Well I have my practical tomorrow, finger x'd I pass. I completed the exam paper a few weeks ago and there were some I could not get answers to so decided to leave and revisit a couple of times.
I've been going through the book lots and there is just a couple of questions I CANNOT seem to find the answers to (perhaps I've gone goggly eyed or more than likely the answr is staring right at me knowing my luck), wondered if you geeks could throw some light my way.

1)What does it mean if the gel appears cracked after a few days and what should I do? (My answer would be that the gel was not sealed properly so i should refine and do a UV top coat over the refinement???)

2)Is it possible to pick up staining from fabrics, newspapers & food. What should your client do to correct this? (My answer would be yes?? as tumeric etc can stain the fingers, I guess the client should use top coat regularly to avoid staining? Is this the answer??

3)Although gel has cured, how long does it take to harden? (I know it takes 2 mins to cure and 40 secs for UV gel to cure, no idea re harden?)

4) Which gels need to be stirred before use...I've said just coloured gels...is this right?

Would be grateful if anyone can throw some light my way re these q's that are doing my head in, lol...

Hi !

I have been qualifed for nearly 6 yrs in Bio sculpture and haven't seen this at all but in my manual it says "If the gel appears cracked after a few days it will be because the high gloss top coat was not removed properly" so all you would need to do is remove it thoroughly with nail polish remover, sanitize and re apply top coat.

Very often wool coats or jeans can stain gels but usually it is only the top coat which picks this up so you should advise client to remove the top coat with non acetone nail varnish remover and re apply.

I can't help with your 3rd question !! Sorry !!

And your last question about stirring the gels ... all colour gels and french need to be stirred as does "S" gel and also sculpture gel (but not sure if you learn to use this nowadays coz free egde gel replaced I think and probably only us old techs still prefer sculpture gel !!!)

Hope this helps !! And good luck for tomorrow ... keep calm and try to enjoy!! You'll pass with flying colours I am sure !!

thanks so much snail....i think i need to breathe as you said. my brain is fried as studying my Anatomy & Physiology as well so feeling a bit frazzled. dreading the infills tomorrow, fingers x'd. will post my results. thanks again. x

Don't panic! When I did my course and then the exam I was so so nervous but they expect that .. you are human !!
And my educator is fab .. she really understood that we were all nervous.. When all said and done, she will want you to pass so she will guide you if you really get stuck.
And infills .... easy peesey !!! Take your time, do the prep perfectly and your infill will be grand!!
Good luck xxxx

think i'll chill for rest of night and close my manual, exam paper and computer and eat some choc...lol. then off to bed for my 6am start....thanks again :)

3rd question answer is gel takes 24 hours to harden properly xx
