My first post - qualified hairdresser for 30 years. mobile for 15. I'm a little bit out of touch with colouring techniques. so need some advice please.

Client is base shade 5 I have been bleaching it with 20vol then using Illumina 10/69. colour always turns out great but she has now decided she wants to go more of a natural blond. but not to gold.
should I still pre bleach then tone?
or just use a tint but I'm t worried roots will go too gold
worried that putting a toner over 10/69 it might go a bit flat.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would definitely still lighten the root first, you're right in thinking tint will leave the hair way too warm :)
Illumina 2 parts 8/ + 1 part 8/69 would be lovely for the root and then I'd probably just go in with the 8/ for the mid lengths and ends that would leave you with an extremely natural result. You could ad some 9/7 if you want a warmer result :)

Another question I have been pre bleaching to a clean 10. When using Illumina 8+8/69 do I still need to pre lift it to a 10 ? Thanks

Technically no you don't, as long as you lift to a 9 you will get the perfect colour. If you lift to an 8 it will probably still be warmer and fade off quicker. :)
