Ive been using Schwarzkopf Blondme for over a year and love the way it lifts. I'm starting to have issues with the unpredictability of how much it swells. I'm in a new shop and I don't know if it's the temperature of the shop or the constant changes in weather but I'm not pleased with the swelling.

I want to change brands of bleach so what are my best options for similar lift?

In my frustration with the swelling I was considering going clay based. Can I use foils with clay and get similar lift? How much lift can I get with clay and open air? I was thinking Joico FreePlay. Any thoughts?

Matrix lightmaster bleach is great minimal swelling with correct ratios and great clean lift!
Another alternative is the matrix graphics lightening system, powder, promoter, toner, it doesn't swell and the toners keep the lifting clean, can be used in foils or free hand, lifts quicker in foils and great if that client wants it literally to their head which is hard to get with bleach due to expansion (we all have those clients right!!) the down side is it's quite expensive x

Is it the blue or white bleach I'd use the blue as it don't swell

I agree! I always feel I get a better lift with the blue Schwarzkopf bleach to.

Are you measuring using the manufacturers recommended ratios?

If you are "mixing to a consistency you like" then it will be unpredictable.

I never had any issues with swelling when I used the blondeme bleach.

I'm using the blue bleach and measuring to the correct ratios and it swells a lot. I feel like it swells less if I mix to the consistency I like but then I feel like I'm wasting product because I'm using more powder and less developer

I’ve been using blonde me for 3 years now. It’s by far my favourite lightener but yes it can swell a TON sometimes. It’s hard to know when it will swell into a crazy mess. If you mix half and half with the clay based lightener it won’t swell as much but it won’t lift quite as much either. The clay is only 7 levels of lift. But swelling could be from what’s on the clients hair (build up). So Malibu treatments are great if you’re going to be packing foils onto someone’s dark hair.
Hope this helps ❤️ in general clay lighteners don’t swell and yes they can be used in a foil but the foil isn’t necessarily needed.

We recommend always follow the manufacturers instructions because if you do your own thing and there’s a problem, you won’t be covered by insurance.
