Bleach using spatula & no foils?

Working as a trainee stylist in a small salon I was advised to use bleach by weaving the hair, pull it tight over a spatula apply bleach and then just drop it without wrapping in foil Is this good practise it makes me uncomfortable seems to be just a money saving thing?

Some salons do this as a quicker method & some people are really good at it, I prefer foils or easimeche I've had mine done badly with a spatula in the past as it was blobby around the hairline , but it's whatever you prefer x
