Im a beginner and my friend wants me to lighten her hair. Im gonna use 3% developer as she doesnt need a lot of lift also her hair is fine but thick and i was taught safe way is better. She is a natural 7ash and got level 10 highlights and a level 8 lift previously from another hairdresser. Her regrowth is around 3cm.
The lifted area is really brassy, deep gold with tiny orange but highlights are beautiful silvery.
She wants to go lighter with shadowroots and get rid of orange and gold so i dont really want to touch her virgin hair just with a few tiny strokes to soften the harsh line and then apply my bleach everywhere else.
Do you think im good with my plan? Or any better advice?

You shouldn’t really be applying any bleach to the level 10 highlighted areas as you will risk breakage so you’d need to carefully pick out the slightly darker level 8 pieces. It requires careful precision and is not usually suitable for a newbie but it depends on your experience.

What will you do after bleaching as it will need toning? Have you already practiced your technique on a mannequin head?

I was thinking on it too but they are so tiny as i remember. Probably ill try to do pick them. she wants only violet shampoo as she wants to play with colouring conditioners... im not sure if a shampoo will be enough.

Not sure if you've done your friend's hair yet but I'd say another heavy highlight would be best the getting her lighter or even an ombre if she wants to do a shadow root. I'd also use some ash or beige to cut the gold and orange. But I do agree you need to be careful to not over lap the lightener.

I personally would always recommend a toner, there’s not very often I highlight without using one tbh. X
