Before anyone goes into :Scared: mode (lol) I am 'certified'! To an extent...
My course covered;
Dry/express manicures & pedicures
Spa manicures & pedicures
Paraffin treatments
Acrylic enhancement
Sculpting/stilettos
Gel application

But I want to start offering CND shellac and MINX??
We have a course here for MINX but it's something like $300 (which, I will admit, after just forking out for my Cert II nail tech course last year, is not overly kind on my bank account until I start getting clients up, which is proving difficult for a 8 month old 'graduated' nail tech, and I'd much rather spend that on insurance than more training right now)
I have also started using "LISH" instead of "perfect" nail systems (which was what we were trained with at 'school')

I have experimented with all three brand on myself, and I do get the wear out of them, I'm a horse rider and can get nearly 2 weeks out of my CND shellac even with stable chores.

My question is, is it 'wrong' for me to offer these when I haven't actually been 'trained' with them? I'm not claiming I have been 'trained' with them either. The salon shops I get all the above from had no issue selling them to me, and the insurance companies I spoke to had no issue with it??

If the same applies over there as in uk then you only NEED a manicure certificate to purchase and use shellac. But of course it is always best to do the training for your own peace of mind. When I did my shellac training there were nail techs that had been using shellac since the beginning but they still learned a few tips and tricks

Hi I think it is down to your insurers. When I purchased gelish nail system a year and a half ago ,I was told that as long as we all had our manicure and pedicure certificates we could do gel overlays, 6 months ago my insurance company said we had to have a gel overlay qualification ,so the goals had changed .
Hope that helps and good luck :biggrin:

Thanks heaps!
I've spoken to insurance, they're apparently #1 salon insurance around here, and first question was "what on earth can go wrong with nails? I think you're pretty safe"
LOL! So... I guess I'm pretty safe haha. My course did include hard gel? but not a gel overlay...
