Hey geeks!

I know this is going to vary for location but generally interested anyway. I'm doing my first solo wedding fayre at the end of this month and I'm interested in what people charge for bridal hair?

I personally charge the same price for brides and bridesmaid as I find bridesmaids can be just as time consuming (thicker/longer hair, more complicated up do etc). But still feel I am undercharging. I am a mobile hairdresser so I travel to them for trials which can be anywhere upto a three hour round trip away and I also go to their location on the morning. I personally love doing weddings but the time has come to stop under charging :)
What do you charge/what are your circumstances?

Thanks in advance!

I also do wedding hair I love being apart of such a happy day!!! I do struggle sometimes knowing what to charge. I charge the bride £5/£10 more than bridesmaids and include a charge for my fuel and time travelling as you can spend a couple of hours sometimes travelling. Time is money and all that. I've looked at some others price lists and I feel like I under charge too sometimes. One of the last weddings I did I had the bride and bridesmaids in for a trial each and travelled to the venue which was about 40 mins away did 4 hair ups and 1 blow dry and I charged £230. I don't know how this compares to prices in your area but I was happy with this amount and she seemed happy with it too. I emailed an invoice just to just her a breakdown of the amount charged.

Thankyou for your reply! Is that price including trials aswell? Do you mind me asking what your standard price is for a trial/on the day? Do you live in a city?

I'm based in Edinburgh. I tend to charge £40 for bridal trial and the same on the day. Bridesmaids I charge £30 but thinking of doing a group package price for 4 or more in party.

Thankyou! This is where my problem occurred when I tried to create some packages, I couldn't (didn't want to) actually do them much cheaper!

Yeah that was for everything, I charged £25 for the trial and £35 for on the day. I would of charged more but she had quite thin medium length hair. No I'm not in a city but the lady was from a city close to me which I travelled to. It is difficult as it's different each wedding you do.

Idk how important doing packages would be since all the bridesmaids etc.. would need their hair doing either way.

The other option would be to increase the prices, knowing that most weddings will be group 'packages' anyway. Maybe for each additional member of the wedding party the biggest the discount..

Yeah and I find most people want a quote before you meet them so even though you can give an estimate, you don't actually know completely what your estimating.

Exactly! It's like asking a builder for an estimate without him seeing the plans!

Anybody else?

One of my ex bosses charged £300 for bride on day plus £100 per bridesmaid plus travel. It reflected time spent out of the salon mostly. However you then attract a different breed of bride- personally not one I found enjoyable to work with!
I would do it first of all, how much could I be earning doing X amount haircuts in that time including travel. Second - what market do i want to appeal to? Am I confident enough in hair up to tackle a more demanding bride. Then include experience - have you invested time and money into hair up courses? This should also reflect in the pricing. If you look on wedding forums most brides don't want too cheap either.

That's why it's important to always have a 'from' that's why it's an estimate!
