I don't know if any one has been in the same or a similar situation to me, but i am a fully qualified Beauty Therapist and love it! ( that's not the bit i am asking about haha)
I have been in the industry for just over 10 years and in that time i have always wondered whether to branch out into hairdressing - i have my own mobile beauty business and i am completely self employed. As several of my regular clients, family and friends have always said they don't know why i don't do hair aswell ( i do hair up on friends colour my hair and my mothers ) it has reignited my interest.
I am really interested in hair and know this is an investment into my future, but i wasn't sure whether or not there are certain parts of the course that i wouldn't need to do ( i can totally understand if i have to ) but i obviously know about stages of hair growth etc because of my beauty training, i have worked in about 5 different hair and beauty salons, so have done my fair share of sweeping and hair washing i know i would still have to do this but would i still have to do work placement?? as i will still be working for myself, would just like to hear from someone who has either been in a similar situation or knows any thing about it, thank you fellow geeks for all of your help, don't know what i would do without you all :) xx

Well, Im doing the opposite!! Lol i did hair for years and have been self employed doing mobile for 5 years and the past few years Ive put myself on different courses! I now am putting a salon in my spare bedroom so I can offer the full package!

Courses I have done include: hair extensions, waxing which I did at night class at local college! Eyelash extensions! Acrylic and gel nails and spray tanning!

Now just thinking about what else I can offer lol! My clients love the thought of booking in for a day and getting there hair done while getting there waxing done or a tan or there nails done! Plus its great when clients come for a hair cut and then say can I have a quick eyebrow wax at the same time! It's an extra £5 in multiple pocket at the end of the day!!

So apart from blethering on here I do think it's a great idea!!!

wow thank you soo much now to move house so i have a spare room in preparation for my little salon lol thank you very inspiring, did you find it easier having some knowledge about hair when doing the waxing, tinting etc, did you still have to do all the theory and did you have to do any work experience so sorry to go on lol x

Hey Emma, I did find it easier having the knowledge especially the Theory but I still has to sit all tests like every1 else!

I just started on friends and family to get some practice, but I have a good clientele and I just asked them if they would help me out offering them discounted treatments to build up my confidence! If u have a good clientbase they will help u out plus it's a little treat for them too x

Thank you bumdeebum thats really helped :) xx

Id say go for it. I qualified in hair over 6 years ago, have just completed my level 3 & start a degree in salon business management in september. Ive also trained in eyelash extensions, waxing & gel&acrylic nails. I do all other treatments on friends & family, massgae facials even skin peels. I try to do 1 course a month so when i finish uni ill be able to do pretty much everything. Its nice to be able to do everything & if you plan to employ people in the future its handy when recruiting. Knowledge is power, u can never know to much x
