Hi can anyone tell me whet this is? And how if anything it can be treated? The client says this nail always grows like this, she is a nail biter. She came to me with gel polish on. She started having it to try to stop biting. That is the finger she bites the most. Thank you.

She should visit a dermatologist before artificial nails are applied. There is a condition called "Habit Tic" or "Median canaliform dystrophy", where the middle of the nail grows in a deformed way. But then I would expect to see this extend from the proximal nail fold to towards the free edge and be longer.

Thank you for your reply.

I was going to suggest "median nail dystrophy" in which the nail fold is swollen and the cuticula are absent. This is caused by repeated manipulation of the middle part of the proximal nail fold.
I agree that this client needs to see her GP, with a view to referral to a dermatologist, to rule out any serious health issues.

Thank you I will message her
