I will be 50 this year and have only been in the business 5 years. Love every minute of it. I agree some customers prefer the mature touch. I have young girls working with me so we appeal to all ages. Good Luck

36 isnt old!!

I am a salon owner and i would much prefer to take on a 36 year old than an 18 year old!

go for it!

Thanks ladies, all comments appreciated and helped in the confidence ratings x

No, your definately NOT too old!!! hope you enjoy your courses and have a fab career. Go for it!! :)

I was 35 when I did my foundation course. Really it is all about motivation and desire to be good.

I would definately go along with Angelina, I would say that age is a definate bonus as your prospective clients ( making a broad generalisation here, I know) are likeley to be nearer your age - or older - as they are the demographic with the money to pay for your services.

Also, you will easily create a rapport with them as you interests and lifestyles may be more similar, than they might find with a young therapist/ tech. After all when you are doing nails you are sitting with your clients and chatting for a long time, and regularly!

My daughter is 20 and is just completing her HND in beauty at Uni, and this is definately something that I think could be a barrier to her establishing a clientele in the salon - although she does have the 'gift of the gab'. (dont know where she gets that from!)

Also, I do spray tans and I have had LOTS of clients who have said that they feel very comfortable with me seeing them in the 'altogether', and would be unhappy for a young gorgeous tech to see them in the nuddy!!!

So, I think it is a BIG advantage in this industry to have a few years under your belt.

Good luck.

tst tst tst..how old Jen...thats not what you put on your CV:lol::lol::lol:
You are the best...even given your age of course:hug::hug:

:o ESPECIALLY given my age :wink2::wink2: (according my hubby!)

ok sorry, I havent read this thread through first :smack:, but to answer your question

Hell yeah!!!!

I find that the more mature and grounded women are the ones who make a go of it. NO offence to any younger techs but it is true that some younger techs who may not have the same amount of life or business experience tend to be the ones that struggle. I dont know what went wrong with me becase I'm a spring chicken but I dont struggle:lol:

You're as old as you feel.:)
I started college doing the ITEC Beauty Specialist at the age of 44 - I enjoyed every moment, came out with a credit and got the Student of the Year award presented by the Mayor at the town hall. As I'd got the bug for learning, I went straight onto an ITEC Holistic Massage and again got a credit - not bad for a 46 year old!!!

As for a career, I'm in the process of setting up my business and I have a queue of people awaiting my start up date. So my message to you, is go for it! And enjoy!

 Julieh

Absolutely!

I started training for nails at 37, I'm now 42 and have built a successful home based business and can honestly say it was the best thing I've ever done (apart from having my kids lol).

Go for it, being more mature has lots of benefits, you will do well.

Hiya, Im replying to the post of whether or not you are too old to start out in the nail profession. I have been a nail tech for just over five years and have my 58th birthday in June. You are NEVER TOO OLD. I love doing nails and have a passion for nail art. Am I the eldest amongst you lot? I have two daughters and have always felt so very young and as I don't look my age (yet LOL) he, he I guess I have always felt "Young at heart." So go for it gal and lots of luck and love for you. I hope you enjoy doing nails for many, many years to come.
Well done.

Not only are you a mere whipper snapper (sp?) You will find that the (even)younger members of your tutor group treat you as their aunty and ask you for advise. I found this when I started at aged 40 now I am a tutor!! go for it you will love it:hug:
