Heres a brief history of my hair...

A few years ago my hair was coloured using box dyes and was a really dark brown/black colour. I then used colour B4 on it to dye it a lighter brown. I put the light brown dye on and it just went really dark again. I think this is because my hair is damaged and really porous.

I went to the salon and they bleached it and dyed it red.
After that I used red box dyes to dye it and that was fine until I wanted to change the colour again.

I used a pre lightener on it and then some more box dyes. Basically I made it worse and it was a horrible orange colour.

I've been to a salon again and they have sorted the colour, but its faded at the ends to a much lighter colour. The red has basically washed out again. I've been using conditioning treatments to try and make my hair better. At the moment it feels ok but I'm just wondering has the red all came out as my hair is damaged due to dying it a lot or is it because red always fades?

Now I want to go a darker red using a box dye as the box dyes seemed to work after my hair was fixed at the salon last time.

I suppose there is only one way to know if this will work and thats trying a box dye and doing a strand test.

Why don't you go to a training salon or college if you're trying to save money? That way, you won't have to pay out larger sums to get it fixed every few months.

The level of peroxide used in most box dyes is actually quite high and combined with bleaching will seriously damage your hair, if you keep applying it over the same bits of hair. Hairdressers can use lower levels of peroxide in their tints to get the same vibrant effect with far less damage.

At some point, repeated bleaching & box dyes will cause your hair to break and no salon will be able to fix it in such poor condition. I'm not saying this to be mean but I don't want you to ruin your hair.
