hi everyone , since ive been trained i have never been asked to do acrylic nails on a pregnant lady.
But today i was shes 8months pregnant what would everyone suggest i do?
Am i aloud to do them and if so what precautions should i take?

I wore acrylics throughout my pregnancy and have applied to pregnant woman however, having just had my second baby, I can tell you that hospitals advise you to have clear nails when you go in (acrylic especially can effect the pulse reader they clip on your finger) so perhaps you might like to suggest a more temporary nail treatment to avoid a soak-off so soon?
I would be interested to know what other people advise about applying to pregnant woman seeing as I both wore and applied acrylics every week working as a tech during pregnancy :s !!

Just a gel manicure. Still needs to be soaked off, yes but not with all the hassle and nail exposure to acetone that soaking off acrylics takes only to do it just a couple weeks after application if you get where I'm coming from...

Hi not sure if this helps much but last year when I had my little one I had pretty long acrylic nails and I got asked if there was anyway I could take one of them off as they couldn't get a clear pulse reading as it kept falling off. However this time round iv still got acrylics on but just of a decent length so they still look nice and neat (as my natural nails aren't brilliant) but are pretty short x

*and they was fine getting the readings and stuff as they wernt too long to get in the way x

Yes that makes sense thanks:)

Ahh yes that makes sense so they were too long to fit into the pulse reader machine

Hi [emoji4] the anaesthetist during surgeries and doctors like to be able to see your finger and toe nails so they can gauge your circulation during surgeries or other procedures x

Yes but if they are also a little too thick, it won't take a proper reading. I'd just suggest a gel polish xx

Doctors and nurses can form an solid opinion on your pressure and circulation by the 8" seconds rule, if they don't have enough time to check and connect all the machines, and it's mainly an emergency tell tip.
In this rule, they need to press down one of your three large fingers so that the nail will become white from the pressure and then release it and see how quickly it will become normal red again. The quickest the better but above 8" can be considered a black case (dead or brain dead) on a triage situation (any form of disaster or accident with multiple victims).
This is why doctors insist on having clean nails when we go to hospital. If the worst is to happen, a slight pressure on our fingers can help us save precious time. Machine proper usage is just a side reason, that makes their work easier, but not the main one.

Tell your client to get rid of any enhancements before she goes to hospital
