Hi there

Sorry for bad spelling above! I have a small problem.

My thumb nail really needs cutting short, I have a nic in the right hand side if my nail, enough that I need to clip the nail off.

However i have pertruding hypernichiums (on both thumbs) which is preventing me from ever having my thumb nails short, as if I clip my nail I'm going to be chopping my skin and it will HURT.

Is there a way around this or something I can do to ease the skin back where it should be?

Thanks

Ok my silly phone spelt the subject words wrong. Should be Hypernichiums, probably still wrong mind!

The subject spelling is correct.
My eldest has high hyponychium on her thumbs and middle fingers so like you she can't have short nails on those two, my learning a wrap system has been wonderful for her keeping those nails at a normal shape if they break I can just repair instead of her clipping around the hyponychium.

Hers tho are extremely painful if touched, Infact her whole nail areas are very sensitive to the point that even filing is painful and I mean only to shape even long nails (she has naturally long strong nails)

I'm not sure what can be done to move this back if anything but ive always made her leave it alone as its there for a reason

I have the same problem and I did ask another professional about this. She suggested I soak them in warm Solar Oil and it would help them shrink back. Always worth a try x

I was going to say Solar Oil too :)

Do a search on "extended hyponychium" it should give you some more knowledge on it

Xxx

Thanks for your replies, I shall do some research x

I have to say the solar oil has done nothing for my daughter.. She has religiously oiled her cuticles since she was a tween - its why I think her nails are so glorious. I should add that she is now 23.
Maybe it's just a natural quirk.

Hey!
Yeah if you soak them and use oil you can slowly start to push them back. Slowly! :) however you have to keep on top of it because it can only be temporay. In bad cases some people have to get surgery(eekkk)
