Hi,
Delighted to have found this site:)
I have recently started to do clients in their homes after being away from the hair scene for the last 9 years due to family commitments. I am absolutely loving it:) only thing is that while I'm waiting to find the right refresher course, I'm having broken sleep thinking, worrying, imagining clients colours:rolleyes: I use Wella Koleston
Now , maybe you can help me sleep tonight:zzz:
I have to do a new clients colour on Thurs, she is 95% white, base was originally 5/0. She has a dirty dull midlengths and ends of 7/0.
She would like it a bit darker, still base of 7/0 and a few blonde hilights.
So, I'm thinking three quarters 8/0 and a quarter 8/7 with 6% roots, emulsify on ends, wash, dry and a few easimeche using blondor + 12%
What do you think anyone ?
Thanks sooo much:)

Hi. If she is 95% white I would def use the double base no and add your tone with one of the special mixes. They give great coverage on white hair. So 77/0 or 88/0. If she has a lot of regrowth you could apply the tint, wash off, dry and use blonder in foils but I would only use 6 or 9%. Or you could foil 1st with 3 or 6% and apply the tint in between. I usually give the tint 40 mins development time to get max courage. Hope this helps :)

Hi Lauren,
Thanks a mil for taking the time to reply.
So the intense natural like 88/0 give better coverage for grey then? I have never used these (or can't remember if I have:eek:)
Might give the 88/0 a go then, with some 8/03 just for a bit of life.
I will let you know how it goes x

Hi again. Yes the double base are specially for a high percentage of grey or resistant hair. I use them a lot. Don't add too much 8/03 as this will not give you as much coverage. You could just add a small amount of 0/33 if you want to add some warmth. Good Luck:)

Great to read this. I also lack confidence with my colouring but have a lot of clients that are high percentage grey, especially that triangle between the temples and the crown. One of my clients went off to Cape Town for her winter migration so got her hair coloured there. on her return she said "I hope you don't mind but the hairdresser out there changed my colour mix from 8/0 with a bit of 8/03 to 88/0 and 8/38 and I prefer it, would you mind doing the same mix for me?" Of course not says I glad to get a bit of advise from someone that was clearly a more experienced colourist than me (I knew nothing about the intense bases). I have started to use these more on my greyer clients but have worried as one of them has become very muddy looking. I was using the same mix on her and it worked well but found it got very dirty looking on the mid lengths and ends where i had combed it through to refresh. Was this the /38 that did this? When i think about it the numbers suggest a mix of gold and ash which i guess might well end up looking dirty on warmer hair.
Interesting to read suggestion of adding the /033 for example. With less tonal numbers I would suspect a cleaner look. ??? Oh for more willing heads to practice on!
