Hello,
I have been reading posts on this fantastic site for tips on how to colour my hair for ages now but need I really need specific help.
On this Wella chart (pic below) my hair would be a 7 with some lighter bits around the front. On most of the other colour charts I have seen online I look like a 6. My natural hair is very cool toned.
I have been bleaching out an old dark hair dye (Loreal Dialight 7.24/7.23 and 8.13). I use bleach with 20 vol and have done it 3 times over the course of 4 months. The copper and dark gold tones from the old dye have been gradually getting lighter.
After I bleach it I have been toning with Loreal Dialight 9.12 with a little bit of 9.11, this worked ok but has not always toned the hair with the darker/old dye bits that well as I think they have been more like a level 7 and 8. I have been happy to live with this as I didn't want to darken it too much knowing I would be bleaching again.
I now have about 2 inches of my natural hair which has been bleached twice and then after that the hair with the remains of the old colour on it. I have done a strand test and it looks like the old colour requires one more bleach to get to almost the same level as the 2 inches of natural/bleached hair which is level 9 and level 10 in lightest parts around hairline at the front and underneath.
I would like to go a bit darker, level 8 I think. I would love something like the colour of Amanda Seyfried's hair. I also like Taylor Swifts old colour. (see pics below)
My questions are:
After I bleach the old dye one more time, can I tone it with Dialight 9.12 and add some 8N into it to take the level down a bit?
I have found that the Dialight washes out very quickly so is there something else I could try?
I have been looking at Wella colour touch or Illumina to tone with and some of the colours look good.
I was using Dialight with 9 vol, should I use the 6 vol instead?
Once I have the right colour I was hoping to carry on doing my roots in one process rather than bleach and toning ( I have so much hair, I already have to do each process on one side of my head at a time). Could I use something like Wella Illumina with 30 vol and mix a level 7 and a level 9 to get the 8? I saw this being recommended to someone else and wondered if that would work for me?
I realise this is a long post but I would be so so grateful to anyone out there who could give me a bit of guidance. I cannot go to a hairdresser as I just don't have the funds right now.
