I'm colouring asain hair tomorrow night for the first time and looking for some advice.

She has had highlights which are a golden colour and said they were bleached.
She also has quite a lot of grey hair which she wants to cover.

She has said she doesn't want her hair so light anymore and wants her hair darkens to cover the grey but also a few highlights.

I'm planning to use wella 44/0 as well as some foils but don't know whether to use bleach or high lift tint. I don't want it to be too light as the picture she sent me is more a golden/caramel colour than a golden blonde colour if that makes sense?

Advice would be gratefully accepted :)

If she has colored before with the level 4 to cover grey there is not the option of using high lift. Only if her entire head is virgin hair would I attempt this. Also asian hair has a very strong red-orange underlying pigment so keep that in mind as well. She will have to process longer than normal as this hair type also tends to have an extremely srong cuticle that can be tough to penetrate.

She has only had highlights in the past and not coloured with the 4 before. She wants to cover the grey and darken down some of the highlights.

Am I best just sticking with bleach then and how much longer do you think i'll need to keep it on for?

My experience with highlighting asian/dark hair is that to get away from the orange tones you have to prelighten the highlights and then tone after. If it were me - based on what you have posted about her situation, I would first do a partial highlight with Blondor and 40 volume. While that processes, I would go ahead with your formula in Koleston of 44/0 and 10 volume Developer applied to everything between the foils. You can use the Koleston on the roots and mix up some Color Touch for the ends (I would use 5/0 + 4/77 + 1.9 Imulsion). Process 30 min. Then shampoo all that out and tone with 7/1 or 7/01 in Color touch depending on how light you get the foils. That has to sit for at leats 15 min - and applying to dry hair is better.

I have done this many times with great results!
