Hello. I was wondering anyones experience with toning extensions. Do they act like porous hair? Should I treat it like bleached hair? Dealing with blonde extentions (613) that are not virgin. I've never coloured extentions but these ones need a little oomph to them as they aren't quite the right tone.

Hair extensions are usually made from Asian hair so they’re naturally very dark brown hair. To get Blonde extensions, they will have been subjected to several industrial bleaching processes and then coated with silicones to make them smooth.

Also, the hair will have come from numerous heads so even within a single batch, you can’t guarantee that the hair will accept the toner consistently.

If you’re doing it for yourself, crack on and have a play around but I would be cautious if doing it for a client because chances are that once you remove the silicone coating, they’ll feel very dry and the client might blame you for ruining the hair.
