Hi

I have only just qualified in Acrylics and have a new (trail) client that has very short and fat thumb nails (look more like toes)! When I tested for tip size the 10's fit the width but they cover more than 1/3 of her nail, in fact I'd say it covers more than 2/3 of her nail... Any suggestions? I was trained not to go more than 1/3?!

Thanks

You need to customize the tip to fit. Do you not do this in any case? Are you using full well tips? Because micro would be the way to go, or even half well with a bit of trimming and thinning.

Yes I do customise, but I'm worried due to the shortness of the nail bed and width of the thumb that there will be more stress on the stress point!
I'm using tips from CND but will I'll look into micro tips, do you know where I can get them?
Maybe I'll just point out the problems to my client in case I'm correct about the stress point to cover my back and will also make sure that the acrylic is slightly thicker so to add strength!
Sometimes you just need some time to think about it and the logical answer comes anyway!

Thanks for replying.

Just to let you know, no strength comes from the applied tip. The tip is simply a platform to build upon. The strength comes only from product. So, concentrate on building your apex well, use a few thinner layers if necessary. This client's nails are quite long , so your tip shouldn't cover much of the nail plate at all. Also, sculpting is an option.

.....Toe thumb! I've got a couple of clients with thumbs like this!
