Ok, since we now have skin people aboard...

Here's the question: is there a cure for Rosacea? I've searched hither and yon, seen two dermatologists.
Spent a fortune on products and prescriptions that didn't do a darn thing.

I'm tired of having a red face, and pimples at the age of 35. It's frustrating as all get out. I'd love to go without makeup, but I look DREADFUL. My skin is white white white EXCEPT where the rosacea is, which is RED RED RED.
I look awful.

Anyone with anything new to tell me re: Rosacea? Any products that 'cure' it and make it never come back again?

If I combat the itchy, dry redness with something moisturizing, it gives me acne.
If I combat the acne, I aggravate the itchy/dry red areas.....

help:!:

Not a cure but certainly helps me out when I get a bit red in the face.

I use Jane Iredale cosmetics and by using the Liquid Minerals foundation in conjunction with the Pressed Base Foundation I find I certainly don't go nearly as red as with other makeup.

If you know what it's like getting a bit red - and because you know you have gone red - it gets worse!

I definitely feel alot more confident with this makeup line just for this one reason.

Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics - The Skin Care Makeup - All Natural Micronized Minerals.

You should find someone local to you and treat yourself in getting your makeup applied and see what you think.

As far as im aware there is no cure.

I know a lady that suffers from it and she uses Australian Bodycare facial products which she said has improved the condition but not cleared it up.

I do know that it can unfortunately flare up if you drink alcohol.

Hey,

I have not heard of a cure either, however do not give up hope.

You will probably notice that it flares up if you drink alcohol or eat spicy or acidic foods e.g tomatoes). You should be able to find a list of things to avoid on the internet. My boss at my old job managed to "control" it in a few clients she had by doing calming facials. A product she really found to be great is Calmo Derme Serum by "Collin" it reduces the redness in the skin dramatically and is scientifically proven to work. It will not make you greasy but will give you the hydration the skin needs. The sun is also a trigger so wear sun protection daily.

You need to make sure that you don't strip the skin when cleansing as this can irritate it more. It is hard to resist using something for oily skin to clear up the spots and something hydrating for the dry bits, however you need to work on one problem at a time the main thing to try to do first is calm down the histamine reaction in the skin using sensitive skin products from a professional skin care range specifically suited to treat Rosacea. Target the sensitivity as that is causing the discomfort.

I feel for you

Thanks ladies but, oh well, didn't learn anything new today
Oh well, could hope right?

Of course, I dont help myself with my passionate love for coffee :irked: BUT I dont drink and I dont eat spicey stuff, and I ALWAYS use mega dosed sunscreen...

I'll look into Jane Iredale.. have heard mention of her and other similar makeup before..
Only question.. what do they charge for that stuff over here?

Thanks a million and hugs to all of you for answering

There is no cure. All you can really do is to treat the symptoms, and calm the skin when there are flare ups.

As already said there's no cure, you just have to manage it. Mineral makeups would be the best makeup for you (jane iredale is one but there are plenty of others)

There is a tv program called diet doctors, they have had a few people on with rosacea and it can be dramatically reduced by making one or two changes to your diet, it could be something that you never thought would trigger it.

Google 'Diet Doctors' and see what comes up, i'm sure they put all the advice from the show on the website

Have you heard of Environ Skincare? Its is a south african company, set up by a plastic surgeon/ dermatologist to correct skin problems and get skin back to a healthy condition using vitamin A. They use plant based ingredients with no parabens. It is a really fab range and I would recommend speaking to the Distributors (Landmark, same people who sell Jane Iredale). I stock both of these companies products and would totally recommend them. HTH

i used to suffer from a very similar condition, i swapped (after speaking to a dermatologist) to a product called QV wash (refresh dry skin), by the ego group (available in pharmacists), IT CLEARED UP IN 5 DAYS, i now use their whole range, give it a go, it cant hurt.
Also, this may seem strange, but wash you hair every night, often hair products end up on pillow slips (which in turn end up on our faces) and can quite often cause problems with facial skin

Actually, I dont use any hairproducts at all.. ever. No, it doesn't sound strange at all. In fact, natural oils from the hair create pimples on my back and little blemishes behind my ears in the summer from my hair lying against it.
But, it's not an option for me. My hair is mega long (just past the middle of my back) and ultra thick.. it takes 45min to blow-dry it and STILL have a few damp spots. I only do it every 3 days. With 2 kids under 5.. no time for primping. (plus it would dry my hair out to the extreme). BUT I do pin it up at night to keep from rolling onto it OR my hubby.

I'll write down these products mentioned here, and see my pharmacist. BUT I'm in Montreal Canada.. and much of what you have it not available here :-(
I'll look. The last time I asked them, they had nothing to offer. At least this time, I have 'names' to ask for.:wink2:

Thanks for your time everyone!

ps: looked at jane iredale site EEKS pricey stuff. for a mom saving up to take an L&P course AND get my driver's license.. not within my reach right now. BUT will keep it in mind!!
thanks again!!

I suffer from it also. I went to my dr and he has given me a prescription for a product called Metrogel which I use in the summer and Metrocream in the winter. This controls the symtoms, really. I am an esthetician first and nail tech second. My face is my business card. I try to control it by what I consume...ie. red wine not good white wine very good, hot spicy mexican food not good, asian spicy food good. It has taken me about 5 years to figure out what sets me off. Things like excerising in a hot humid room, or being out in the sun period. I won't go on but talk to your doctor about it. I also wash my face with spectro gel which you can purchase at the pharmacy, I live in Ottawa, so you should be able to get it in Quebec. I also have finally found a skin care line that works for me Katrina Marso, it is made in Quebec and sold through supply houses/salons. It is a very natural and simple product line that many of my clients have had wonderous results with.

Ok if you need more info pm me. But just remember this can be controled.

There's some really good advice on here, Metrogel and similar products are strongly recommended, but your first point of call should be your doctor. They will have some good ideas for you; as for skincare, remember to treat your skin as ultra sensitive not as aas normal acne skin. Products for normal acne will be far too harsh and make the problem worse.
If the stuff your doctor gives doesn't work, you could ask to be refered to a dermatologist and talk about roacutaine. It's probably the most effective treatment for these kind of problems and if it works it should be a lasting result, but there are side effects. Some of these are not very nice but for some it's easier than others and the problems they encounter whilst having the shots (yes, injections) are worth the end results.
A friend of mine had the shots about 5 yrs ago, she said it's the best thing she ever did, there were some mornings that her skin was so bad she didn't want to leave the house. She's so much happier & more confident now.
However I would suggest you do some serious research on it to find out more.
Hope this helps.

I've been to two dermatologists.. both charged me a fortune and didn't help at all:irked: If anything, the products they prescribed made it worse:evil: and one was utterly useless as it was tinted and too dark at that? BUT I'm so darn fair/pale that I looked utterly stupid and couldn't use it. A waste of good money. (man, was I ticked off!).

I don't get acne severe enough or often enough to merit acutane. In any case, would never touch it as they tell you not to get pregnant on it. I'm not 'fixed' and neither is hubby. While we are being careful (and he will be fixed eventually), if there was a whoops, I would def not terminate (as they suggest you do with accutane, at least here in qc they do).

Yup, I do stear clear of acne washes and stuff as they just irritate the rosacea more than anything.

I'll ask my gp for the metrogel, and look into other products mentioned above and mineral makeup.

Thanks again for all the kind words, advice and encouragement.
I know I'm not alone with this nasty business of rosacea, but sometimes it's nice to hear from others that have the same problem and understand (as none of my family does).
They all poke fun because I refuse to quit the house without makeup... only my hubby understands..

hi i suffer from this and i ahve had it for over 7 years now and i am now 35 years old i went to 2 skin specialist and neither of them knew what it was, until i started my beauty course and the all of the tutors told me what it was.
so when i ent back to my skin specialist i told her i think it is acne rosecea as i have seen a lot of pictures of people who have got it.
so she put me on or accactane tablets for over a year which didn't work and creams.
the causes of acne roseaca are a lot of spicy foods, caffeine, hormaones etc.
what i did to help this was to cut down on all spicy foods such as chillies and curries which these can make the skin red.
Because nothing wasn't working on my skin i decided to do my own research and i found this when i do my cleansing routine twice a day i add a few drops of chamomile essential oil into my mosturiser and i found that this helps a lot, to doesn't go away altogether but it isn't as red its more of a pinker colour and the pimples and pustules aren't as severe as they use to be, i use camouflage make up but i don't use it all the time as i feel it can clog up my skin so i use boots n7 foundation which i think is better than all of the make up i have used.
i just wish that someday some will have a cure for it as i will have it permanately now for the rest of my life
