Curly blows

Feeling a little deflated today as I did my first customer for a curly blow after completing my day course earlier in the week, the curl would not take at all I did exactly as I did on the course ( turned out lovely on the model I used) and the hair would just not hold the curl or bounce.i ended up have to use a curling want to create curls then brush through which just didn't give the same finish . Don't have a clue where I've gone wrong, does anybody have any tips ? I've attached a pic of the model I completed on my course.

Did you do a consultation and determine her hair type before starting?
Does the client struggle to get her hair to hold a curl?
What products did you use?
