Hi all,
So i am currently working 3 days a week in a salon on an employed basis getting minimum wage for my age, they are reluctant to give anyone a pay rise. I have just started working in another salon a couple of half days a week employed and the owner isn't taking anything off me for what I take until i can make thre transition over to the new salon and leave the part time one, BUT...He is very reluctant to do any advertising for me as he doesn't want to upset his current clients by offering cheaper prices.
I don't know whether I am wasting my time or not?
Any advice will be appreciated !
Thanks !!

Sorry, but I can’t work out whether you’re employed or self employed in the second salon?

If you’re self employed, you are running your own independent business within the salon so all advertising and promotions should be undertaken by you. The salon owner is technically your landlord and responsible for providing basic amenities and receives rent or an agreed percentage of your takings. If self employed, he’s not legally allowed to interfere in the running of your business so you may set whatever prices you wish and run any offers you fancy.

If he wants to control your prices, he has to employ you and be liable for your tax, NI, sick pay etc.

I will be self employed in the second salon. My point is that he has hardly any customers, has said that he will do leaflets and posters, none of which has been done. He has no rent to pay for the shop so he is very lazy .

This is about setting up and running your own business within someone else’s premises, so it’s largely irrelevant if he’s not very proactive with advertising as that’s your responsibility.
