Ok so here it goes... I wanted my hair magenta. I was told by someone at Sallys Beauty Supply to use a product. I forgot the same but she said it pulls the color out of your hair without using bleach. Well, this only worked for my roots which turned white but the rest of my hair was still dark brown. This is when I bleached it.

This worked. I could now color my hair magenta. The magenta lasted for a little while but was hard to maintain so I dyed my hair all black EXCEPT the side pieces of my hair which I kept a cool color (pink, magenta, purple, blue, green).

I was over the bright colors so I dyed it all black. My side pieces didnt dye. They stayed WHITE. The black faded faster than it did before. I hated having to dye it every month so I just let it fade to a light brown.. almost blonde. I have been doing protein treatments since them b/c my hair felt gummy. Its worked wonders.

However, my hair no longer stays black. I dyed it for a weekend to Vegas last September 2014. JET BLACK! Didnt wash it the first two days. Third day, I had too... the heat was too much. The moment I washed it, it was blonde again. Not just a subtle fade, NO! Completely washed out! Why is this happening?

I havent tried to dye it black since then. It just kept fading lighter & lighter. About a month ago, I tried to use this blonde hair dye from the store b/c I figure if it wont stay black, then I want my hair platinum. That didnt work. Not one bit! My hair was the same color before I colored it.

Please HELP! I have no idea what to do :/ I want my black hair back!

If it is feeling gummy then you have destroyed the outter cuticle of your hair meaning there is nothing to hold the colour in the centre part of the hair hence why it's just washing out
Are you a hairdresser?

No, I am not a hairdresser. How do I fix this? I have been doing protein treatments & even have cut off many inches of my hair to try & cut off all of the dead hair.

Your hair is knackered!! Lots of protein treatments won't help, too much protein will take over the moisture causing it to snap.

Blonde hair colour will not lift brown tint, not ever!

You need to stop taking advise from sallys staff, most are not trained hair messes, they are only shop assistants who know nothing...as you've discovered :(

The only advise we can give is visit a good salon for a full consultation and go from there, lots of deep conditioning treatments and protein treatments once a month.

But please stop doing anything to your hair or you won't have any left, leave it to the pros to sort out now

Yes, a friend of mine who is currently going to Cosmetology school told me that Sallys girls know nothing.

I know I should visit a salon, I just am so busy with school in work... I feel I never have the time. I thank you for your response.

as my hair grows out, will the new hair still be damaged? Ive cut my hair so short to try & minimize the death that I have growing out of my head but I just want to know... will this help? (aside from treatments)

New hair growth will be fine. As KHS advises, please visit a decent hairdresser to help you sort this out.

DO NOT keep DiY. You don't want to be bald! ;)

Rather ignorant and offensive to assume Sally's employees don't know anything. I worked for Sally's and we're given extensive training in hair colour, unfortunately not all of it gets through to some people.

Like most people have stated, you've most likely destroyed your hair cuticle. There's so little of it left, there's nothing there to hold in the hair colour. Once your hair is fried, there's nothing you can do besides cutting it off. Give your hair a break and try again in a few months or so.

U said previously that sallys employees were given basic colour training? Just because you may have extensive training dosent mean across the whole of sallys all the other staff do, it's undeniable that the advice they give out is more often than not litterally just to close a sale.
