Demand for Gel??

I work mostly with L & P and very occassionally silk but am considering taking a gel course to add to my portfolio. There doesn't seem to be as big of a demand as the L & P so just wondering whether it is worth shelling out the dosh. Any advice is welcome!
 
There have been a few debates recently about providing gel as a service. I only do gel nails and am one of the few people in my area that does it, and never have a problem in getting / keeping customers.

I went on a sales course once and it was about seizing opportunities, the story went like this "One wholesale shoe salesman went to Africa to open the market to sell them their shoes, he came back and said "terrible, nobody wears shoes, what a wasted trip". On the other hand another sales man went and came back saying, "wonderful opportunity - nobody wears shoes, I have an open market!"

It is just a case of having confidence and belief in your product and selling it to YOUR open market. (Hope this all makes sense and doesn't come across as waffly drivel lol!!)

It's all about finding your USPs (unique selling points). For example, I'm training in gel and l&p in order to keep up with my local competition - all three salons do all three systems. However, I know for a fact that none of them do UV gel polish (which I hope to market to an extent as 'what Jordan wore in the Jungle', although could be a bit dodgy as she lives down the road!!!), or the '2 week' airbrushed nails, so I am looking at using them as my USPs once I set up shop.
If not many people in your area do gel, it could be an untapped market. You could offer initial discounts and see if you can win people over.

I myself do L&P and Fibreglass, and have also considered doing gel. In my area fibreglass is the one that no one offers so i have an untapped market there, but there again alot of people do gel, which i have been asked about, so its swings and roundabouts. I would love to offer what no one else does as well as offer what others do, but better.;)
 
If allot of people do gel in your area, then you MUST offer it. Clients move around ... if you have to turn one client away because you do not offer what she wants then it is one too many.

Think ... how many sets of whatever do you have to do to pay yourself back the investment on the kit in a different system? Not many. It is worth it to be able to do it all and never turn a single customer away.
 
As said before............. If you supply this service, you can create a demand...........
it is another service and skill and will give clients the chance to have a choice xxxxx

I am having the same dilemma myself...gel is well hot in Leicester my local salons are charging £35/£45 quid....I am turning that away!!

All i need is to find which one is best!

I am bamboozled with all the different products!

Pro nails are doing an conversion for £50 at the moment.

I lost two clients cause I didnt do Gel, so now I am doing a Brisa course so this cant happen to me - i really dont want to lose business because I cant offer all 3 service options when it comes to enhancments - but hey thats just my option... :D
 
Thanks for the advice, definitely gonna get myself booked on a course asap. Already have a small training kit so I've been playing around a bit already.
 
I do L&P and wraps, but have booked myself onto the Bio Sculpture training day as I feel it's good to be able to offer different systems, some clients may only prefer a certain type.
