Do I charge less for acrylic overlays than extensions? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I feel like I am doing nearly as much work. Shellac alone is £23 and acrylic enhancements with shellac £40 so where does overlays with shellac stand?

I charge less for an overlay as i don't need to do tip application xx

Sometimes it feels like you do almost just as much work overlaying when someone needs heavy prep and such, but since you don’t do any extending of the nail you use less products so in theory you should charge a little less. But it’s not only product cost to consider, it’s also your time costs. So if you feel you can’t get the time down on doing overlays compared to extensions than you should consider matching prices to your time spent, not consider what you’ve done to the nail. Hope this helps, Ive been there and still are sometimes so it’s confusing, but you have to figure out what works for you so you can make money and have happy clients. Don’t worry about their wallet, just the quality of your work.

I charge a bit less. I use less products, don't have to use forms etc so it does shave off at least some time. Not enough to warrant a huge price dip, but enough to charge a bit less. To be fair I have only ever had ONE person who had nails that were long enough, in good enough shape and same length to get just an overlay, so it's not exactly something that I do often anyway. Most people I have to extend with a form (or a tip, on some few occasions where I absolutely have to).

Sounds like you do mostly longer nails so it shouldn’t effect you so much with keeping the price a little lower on overlays. Usually joiners are not aware of all the technical things we have to do to get nails even and harmonious + lasting. So I usually consider my time more than anything when it comes to pricing because it’s so individual what a client needs. Some needs more work on certain nails to get an even result so it’s all up to what you do and the result they want. I always think they should not meddle into what I need to achieve their result and i alsways use my time spent as the main key point when we talk pricing. Looks like you k ow what you are doing, just remember not to be afraid to charge a fair price for your work. Especially considering it seems you work on long nails a lot.

Haha-joiners =clients. Autocorrect

I’m £5 for overlays as I find them much quicker
