Do I try a new brand or am I just wasting money?

Currently a Shellac user but I'm considering trying out the new magpie gel range but not sure whether I'm just wasting money into another brand? I feel like sometimes Shellac isn't up to people's standards they expect.. I've had a lady say they came off in hot water they started lifting then were all off and another say solar oil is making her nails bendy??! Like seriously... I sometimes feel like giving up with shellac unless it's me!!

I would say that you absolutely should try out other products. Now what I mean by that is buy a small amount of whatever brands products, do not buy a whole line at once before trying.

So for instance, say you'd like to try brand the gel bottle. Make a small purchase of a few bottles, try it out and if you like buy a few more, and then if you still really like then maybe make a bigger purchase. If you don't like it, then you at least didn't waste a lot of money, because your first order was small.

I definitely think we should be open to trying new products. I for one can say that I use multiple brands, not just one, and most techs I know do the same.

Good luck!

One thing I don't get about magpie is, they have no lamp!
They say there's one in the making but, so many people are having issues and I think not having a specific lamp could be the cause of many people's problems with it.

I definitely think you should offer something alongside shellac as for me it didn't suit all my clients as it doesn't have enough strength by its self.
I ended up investing in gelish which had the strength and then eventually phased out shellac altogether because I didn't need it anymore.

My advice would be if you are thinking of taking on another range go to one of the beauty shows with bare nails & try each brand on a different nail and keep note of what's what. Then You can see how they wear against each other & decide from there xx

I assume your on the magpie page too as you've also seen some of the issues they are having with some of the polishes. This is why I'm hesitant to purchase them but £60 odd versus gelish although they do have the Sally salon discount offer on at the moment which I was tempted but over £100 I just think it's a bit pricey still although you do get the lamp! I'm really stuck atm and just don't want to waste my money I'm earning on wasted products.

I bought one polish at Pro Beauty i London earlier this year, I find trade shows great for trying new products, as you can pick up one or two products without having to worry about postage or min purchases.

I think Magpie are going to the Beauty UK show in Birmingham in May, if you are able to, pop along and just buy a few colours to sample on some pops or tips, that way you get a feel for the product without having to worry about overexposure due to improper curing! :)

Yes I am on their page and to be honest I'm not 100% convinced so I'm holding back for a while.

For me I know investing in gelish wasn't waste of money because I know it works for me & my clients so it was an investment. But you need to trial for yourself. Maybe See if you have any educators near you so you can get a gelish manicure done on yourself and see how you get on with it. :)

Sallys always have deals on for half price colours and buy a colour get a free top coat etc. Just keep an eye out.
Nail harmony have lots of decent colours on half price at the moment too xx

I use Shellac and my clients are all happy with it, but it doesn't last on me, I have the flimsiest, peeliest, pathetically weak nails I've ever seen! I read some good things about Gel II so decided to make a small purchase when they had a vat free offer on. I've got to say, I'm impressed! I only get 5ish days out of shellac on myself. I'm getting 2+ weeks out of Gel II. The only downside is that removal is much tougher. I'll definitely be placing more Gel II orders

Thanks Ladies I'm thinking of holding off on magpie for a while and keep looking up different brands etc... before I purchase anything I personally love Shellac but I'm just worried if my ladies are getting the same wear it's hard being a nail tech!

Candy coat! They are amazing and the service is spot on! Give them a go

Have you tried dura coat? Or IBX?.

I'm now changing over brand. I've been a Gelish girl for 4 years but bought a couple bottles of other brands to try. I'm now going to use ink London and the gel bottle xx
