Jus out of interest really, wanted to know.........or do people specialise in just extensions?

Thanks x

The people who you pay money to for training will tell you no.

Every hairdresser on here will tell you yes.

Take from that what you will....

I never did a hairdressing course and did my training and felt 100% confident when I had finished it. I always tell my clients I am not a qualified hairdresser and would never cut their hair/colour etc. I have been doing it for 2 years now and still feel no need to do a hairdressing course :)

Hello!
As a professional hairdresser I would say definitely - anyone can put a set of extensions in - it's not exactly rocket science! Knowing the texture of the hair, the movement, hair growth patterns, knowing how to carry out a proper consultation with your client, and identifying any contraindications is what sets you apart from the non-professionals. This is just my opinion, so i'm not saying it's correct, just how I see things, hope it helps

If you get a good enough course for hair extensions you will learn all of what ballyboo has said, I would never do extensions without knowing all of that. It is easy to put them in but if you havent had the best training and a problem arises you may not be able to help them and could cause a lot of problems!

can i ask who you did your training with ? x

I trained with Lush Us Uk and I believe they do still train non hairdressers and have just started doing some form of e-learning which I understand from one of my friends that you have various assessments on theory of extensions and some basic knowledge of the natural hair structure that you have to pass before the practical day. One thing I always rave about Lush Us Uk is that you train on a real person not just a training head. You fit a full set within the training and if you train on one of their group trainings you get to fit on up to 4-5 different models on your training day which personally I think gives you an awful lot more experience than some of the other training companies which just get you to fit a few rows on a training head. I would however, spend time talking to all of the training companies, don't always just go for the cheapest, make sure they have everything to support you and your new skills during and after the training. Good Luck

thanks thats fab advise will have a look in to it .
i know what your saying about not going for the cheepest ive learned the hard way doing my beauty courses ended up costing me more in the long run x

Hi I did my training with a lady in Selby as it is closest to me, may not be the cheapest but I really enjoyed it and trained on a model for a few hours then a live model which really helps. I have heard Lush Us UK is also very good, they just arent close enough for me :)

I'm a hairdresser and trained with Lush Us but I wouldn't rec them if not a qual hairdresser. The training was not as good as it was explained to be and the kit - well its barely a kit!! The instructor was rude and really not nice at all. We did theory at 6pm in a packed pub so it was hard to concentrate and then we did practical the next day with the tutor (if you can call her that) was strutting about discussing her personal life and slagging off others etc etc. Really not impressed with Lush Us AT ALL!!!!!! I would say try to stay clear as I wish I had trained with another company.

Lucinda ellery and Tatiana hair extensions both have big salons in Manchester and the hair extensions technicians there are not hairdressers. At Lucinda ellery there are hairdressers who will style your extensions for a charge, that's What I have been told.
